CV

I started as a cameraman, doing single camera news work, OBs and sports. Clients slowly discovered I could edit and I knew my way around VTs so I ended up running replays and slo-mos on OBs and acting as a fill in editor for various facilities.

I have embraced digital technology with enthusiasm. I originally trained as an animator and these skills continue to be useful for motion graphics. I think merely shooting and editing is not enough to give a client now, my graphics skills are an essential part of the service. I have also authored complex interactive DVDs. I can take a project from beginning to end, quickly and with skill that comes from long experience.

Employment History

(Jul 2007 & ongoing)

Cameraman & Editor

Sheffield

This entry is to represent my commitment to my community. Rashida is our local community education worker who heard I made videos. The fee she paid in no way covered the work I did, but the project was rewarding in other ways. I try to do one or two jobs for people who can't afford my services every year. The fireswingers are a local circus act, who have no money so I did their job for free. I also make a short drama for my local school, written, designed and acted by the children. Again I don't charge for this, and it makes me appreciate all teachers.

(Oct 2004 & ongoing)

Cameraman & Editor

London

I include this client because of the interesting work methods. We basically operate over the internet. I post edits on my website, they email amendments to me until they're happy, then I courier discs to them. I have also done last minute videos for international presentations and FTPed the finished programme to the client in whatever country they are in.

(Jun 2003 & ongoing)

Camerman, Editor & Graphic designer

Hertfordshire

Adam is in the training and motivation business, and we have turned two of his courses into complex interactive DVD series, with a workbook, packaging and web support. He has done very well selling these, and it has freed up his time to conduct more advanced courses.

(May 1997 & ongoing)

Cameraman & Editor

Leeds

I have done a range of jobs for Andy, who is a busy director with a particular knack for delivering exactly what the client wants, and then a little more. We have done dramas, corporate communications, training and advocacy programmes.

(Mar 1996 & ongoing)

Main editor for corporate communications.

Halifax

Halifax, Bank of Scotland are my major client at present, and I love working for them. I produce a mixture of simple vox pops for presentations, complex training DVDs and regular presenter lead monthly programmes. Mainly Avid and graphics with occasional camerawork. They have come to dominate my time more and more, a huge company with many departments any one of which is a potential client. I just feel that as a freelancer, over-dependence on one client is unwise.

(Feb 1990 to Jun 2005)

Camera operator & Editor

BBC, Manchester

Most of the work I did was for the local news. Studio camerawork involved four cameras and only two operators, so you moved from camera to camera as required. Script changes were common during the programme and I'm still amazed we never made a mistake. Editing was frenetic and intensive, with stories coming in as the programme was airing. It was all great fun, I got the work through my agent who retired some years ago. Perhaps I should give them a call.

(Aug 1989 to Apr 2001)

Camera, VT operator & editor

Televideo, Sheffield & Leeds

A good local employer, Televideo are a sports outside broadcast company. For many years they were my most important client. I did news location camera for TV-AM, Sky Sports and various other channels, OB camera for Sky, BBC & ITV, and VT playback & slo-mo for all the sports channels. I also edited for them. Once I had children I disliked working every weekend, and travelling so much, and I concentrated on editing which has more regular hours, but I am still grateful to Televideo for the opportunities they gave me.

Education

(Feb 1990 to )

Various

I am accredited by Avid, Quantel and Adobe, I go on courses almost every year to keep my skills fresh, and to make the job more interesting. You can learn to do anything if you're interested.
