A significant amount of time spent in industry has been associated with design, contracting, procurement, manufacture, resource planning and site supervision. Fully conversant with the requirements of HAZOP studies, Design Risk Assessments, Quality Planning, the writing of Method Statements and the compilation of Health and Safety Plans for the purpose of implementing HSE ‑ CDM Regulations. Also possess a working knowledge of the needs of ARM. analysis techniques.

Have also been responsible for the structuring of a quality assurance system to meet the requirements of ISO 9000 and to see the implementation of the programme leading to certification for BSI registration.

WORK EXPERIENCE

2001 - Present Birse Process Engineering.

Project Engineer

Currently working on a design, build and installation contract worth approximately £17.5 million, on behalf of Severn Trent Water Authority for their Birmingham to Solihull clean water main. The scope of work covers such as Booster Pump Stations at Highters Heath and Meriden reservoir sites. At these locations there is to be instilled Weir Pumps' vertical, split casing centrifugal pumps design rated at between 120 to 160 M1/day. Further work packages include Sodium Hyperchlorite dosing systems, up to 1000 mm diameter actuated and manual valve schemes, both submersible and sump pump regimes and other such ancillary equipment including safety showers, sampling systems and noise attenuation treatments at the Booster Pump Stations.

Daily activities involve contact with specialist suppliers of scoped equipment in order to "work up" the design to final specification compliance through the use of design review meetings at either the Cheadle Health office or at vendor's premises. Costs and equipment details are obtained by means of the issuing of either 'G90' sub-contract tender enquiries or sub contract purchase order enquiries. Full and detailed bid appraisals are carried out covering both technical and commercial aspects of the vendor's offers.

Work also covers contact with sub contract hydraulic and process engineering designers. Their submitted layout, detail and P.I. drawings and design documents are reviewed to ensure full compliance with the client's specified requirements and both national and European standards.

Liaise with civil department on all matters relating to non-mechanical or electrical activities.

Report directly to the Project Manager and Business Manager within the Nuclear Projects Department of the Company.

• To prepare and maintain project programme and attain the project objectives to the contract specification within the cost budget identified.

Contracts Engineer

Undertook contract engineering tasks and provided both technical end commercial support to the Project Manager within the Department of Turnkey Operations for clean and wastewater treatment plants.





• Responsible for the preparation of detailed sub‑contract documentation for the purposes of issuing at tender and order stages. Accountable for specifying the scope of works, contract specific elements and necessary technical, quality and commercial requirements.

• Ensure that full compliance with client's requirements was met in all of the issued sub‑contract documentation, specifications and drawings.

• Undertake detailed technical and commercial tender appraisals and resolve in Biwater Treatment favour any resulting specif ication deviations.

• Co‑ordinate and liaise with mechanical design, electrical control, ice, civil design, process engineering end planning engineer disciplines to ensure continuity is maintained with client's project scope and contract specific requirements.

1997‑ 1998 Bechtel Water Technology

Mechanical Engineer

• Undertook mechanical design and specification of equipment for waste water systems covering Inlet Works, Pumping Stations, Sludge Digesters, Submersible Mixing, Odour Control, Storm Screening, Sludge Drying, Sludge Disinfection (Biotherm process) and Pumping regimes.

• Responsible for delivering detailed design specifications at the Needs, Optioneering end Implementation phases on N^ Ltd projects covering waste water treatment and processing plants.

· Prepared budget estimates at all project stages for both plant equipment end personnel man‑hours.

· To provide technical input into the preparation of validation protocols and equipment test specifications.

· Ensure that all work satisfies the statutory requirements and that the Company Quality and Safety Policies are applied end maintained at elf times.

1996‑ 1997 H.J. Heinz Co Ltd (UK)

Project Engineer

Accountable to C.A.D.E. Group Manager ‑ Food Systems Engineering for projects covering U.K. manufacturing centres.

Responsible for defining project objectives at the project inception to deliver those objectives measured against time, cost, cash flow end performance.

· Produce feasibility studies to establish the viability of project proposals and make recommendations for projects within the Beans and Soups Centres, TK department, Infant Feeding and Multi Variety Centre.

· Prepare scope documents and capital appropriation requests for new work projects for both UK and American Board approvals.

· Responsible for the implementation from design, through procurement installation and testing to the handover. Carry out project audit to verify achievement of the benefit claimed in the appropriation and ensure that closure had been completed.

1995‑ 1996 Ventron Technology Ltd

Mechanical Engineer

Company provided design, procurement and construction services to chemical manufacturing companies in the fine organics sector as well as pharmaceutical and other process industries.

• Worked on projects for new plants and refurbishments including MbI bulk dispensing system, glucose storage and blending and MFI additions plant. Carried out vendor drawing and documentation review and control, sub‑contractor tender appraisals and procurement activities for resin and polymers, chlorinated derivatives high temperature gas scrubbing and solids drying and grinding plants.

• Carried out the specification of ail major equipment including vessels, reactors, columns, tanks, pumps, valves, piping systems and support structure.

1992‑ 1995 Vogue Systems

Project Engineer

Company provided design and build schemes for powder handling systems within the food industry.

• Responsible for engineering project schemes covering aspects of design and contracting. Ensured that defined profit targets were achieved.

• Scope of work covered pneumatic and mechanical conveying systems on Pelletising processes, Flour Conveying, Ingredient Blending Plants, Bulk Storage Silos and Aspiration Plants.
