Career objective

A position within a large organisation where I can maximise the use of my communication skills and knowledge of health and safety issues and where I will be continually challenged. I aim to study part-time for my NEBOSH diploma and other safety qualifications. I hold a clean driver's licence and UK passport. Associate member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

Skills, experience and personal attributes

Communication skills

I regard effective communications as vital to the success of any organisation. I have a good command of the English language, both written and oral, and am able to express myself confidently and clearly.

Knowledge and experience of Occupational Safety and Health

My experience in the high-risk industries of railway engineering, construction and asbestos management includes safety culture promotion, workforce supervision, authoring of risk assessments, method statements, work procedures and safety policies, deliverance of toolbox and induction talks and provision of advice and information to senior management. I have extensive experience of compliance to CDM and CAW regulations and the enforcement of personnel's adhesion to Railway Group Standards. Recently involved in revision of Corus environmental policy.

Computer literacy

Computing is my main hobby and I am fully conversant in Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well as other web-based utilities such as e-mail, website design and image manipulation.

May 2005 - PRESENT Section Manager, H&S Team, Corus, Hartlepool.

Responsible to Safety, Health and Environment Manager. Assistance with updating of procedures and other Safety Policy elements with a view towards OHSAS 18001 accreditation. Provision of advice and information to Line Managers. Design and maintenance of COSHH and Lost Time Frequency databases. Authoring and delivery of training to 400 personnel in Environmental Awareness and Accident Investigation.

Jan 2004 - Mar 2005 Safety Advisor, Amec, Manchester.

Contracted to the Stockport Rail Renewal project and reporting to the Project manager, my duties included promotion of Amec Safety Culture and the policing of the 2000 strong workforce over eleven construction sites. Provision of advice on Railway Group Standards to civils management and supervision of Permit To Work system.

Jun 2003 - Dec 2003 Asbestos Manager, TT Demolition, Darlington.

Remit was to improve attitude of asbestos removal workforce towards safety and increase awareness of the medical implications of non-compliance with HSE legislation. Greatly improved relations between the company and the Health and Safety Executive.
