Goal Setting Regulations - Producing Performance Standards and Performance Assurance Processes, and monitoring through Compliance Reporting.

Senior Mechanical Engineer

Working as Package Engineer on the Viking Redevelopment, Phoenix and Viking ED Development Projects. Packages include Gas Turbine Generators, Gas (ex Diesel) Engine Generators, Various Pumps, Cranes, Fuel Gas Heaters, Fuel Gas Treatment, Vent Tip and Snuffing, General Atmospheric Tanks. Work includes the writing of specifications and data sheets, collating technical bid documentation, bid analysis and vendor selection. Progressing the package through conceptual design to completion. Ensuring that the packages are designed and built to the specifications and within safety regulations. Vendor liaison and problem solving, liaison within the overall platform design and other disciplines, and that their cost comes within allocated budget and are delivered on time.

Senior Maintenance/Rotating Equipment Engineer

Seconded to ADMA OPCO in Abu Dhabi as Senior Maintenance Engineer on the Zakum West Super Complex. Responsible for the Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance and Services to the seven platform complex. Controlled the activities of the 76 multinational direct and contract hire workforce, carried out preventative and breakdown maintenance of the plant. This included turbo generators 1compressors, pumps, water injection 1 gas and oil treatment plant, cranes, electrical distribution, safety and accommodation systems, scaffolding, painting and boat logistic services. Co‑ordinated all maintenance programmes, reviewed plant performance, recommended necessary modifications 1 improvements in scheduling to ensure safe and efficient operation of the plant. Involved in the planning, and carried out the major overhaul shutdown work on the plant. Prepared departments 3.2 million $ budget and controlled the expenditure within.

Seconded to the BP Management Team on the Bruce Area Development Project. Responsible for the design of all the rotating machinery packages e.g. RB211 turbo generator 1 compressors, ensuring these and other mechanical packages were technically adequate, cost effective and met all specification, safety and environmental requirements. Provide information to management on bidders and vendor selection. Monitoring and support of Contractors staff. Agree design decisions and record basis for them. Sign off project documentation as required by project procedures. Advise management of any problems to design or project progress. Ensure use of previous and initiate new Bruce engineering work 1 studies. Witness and check. /, approve Vendor equipment tests. 6 months yard installation and testing. 6 months offshore hook up and commissioning

Initially Seconded to then joined the Alwyn North Division Maintenance Department. Two years as onshore Mechanical Maintenance ‑Engineer. Duties included the day to day running of the onshore back up team. Supervision of the personnel, troubleshooting on all equipment sent to the beach for repair, DEM 1 Vendor liaison. Responding to offshore queries. Writing technical input into personnel and repair contracts and supervision of them. Setting the section yearly budgets and cost control thereof. First two years involved in the onshore and offshore commissioning of the platform rotating equipment, control, governing and all auxiliaries. Included 5 Rolls Royce Avon turbo generator 1 compressors, Creusot Loire and York motor/ compressors, and Mather and Platt motor 1 pumps. As onshore back up also responsible for setting up the maintenance procedures, condition monitoring policy and its implementation, spares selection and their procurement. Troubleshooting and supervising investigatory stripping of the machinery. Modification design, equipment selection and compilation of work packs to carry out the work. Equipment repairs control, selection of vendors, budgetary and contractual control. (March 84 ‑, April. 86). With the Engineering Facilities Group, carried out similar work as above, troubleshooting and modification design 1 implementation on the MCP01 Pratt & Whitney Turbines and Nuovo Pignone Compressors, Ruston and Kongsberg Gas Turbines.

Senior Commissioning Engineer

Commissioning of large gas turbine installations for compression, generation and pumping in the UK and abroad. Commissioning the gas generators, turbines and driven units, plus all mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment. First senior appointment in 1974 on a turnkey contract in Iraq. Responsibilities included supervision of expat and local commissioning team. Planning and ensuring equipment was completed on time, and tested to the customer's satisfaction. Deputised as Resident Engineer in his absence.

Came back to the Whetstone factory to supervise the works testing of the Avon 1 RB211 machines to the relevant customer and 1 or API specifications. Tests were usually to API 616 or 617 included spin, full load and performance tests and full string tests of compressor units. Spent two years on test 1 development of new machines, firstly a mobile unit using the GE LM2500 gas generator. Secondly spent the last year seconded to the Plant and Buildings Dept. designing a new test berth for a 30MW GE LM5000 unit with a 3‑stage turbine. Responsible for the berth oil, fuel and air services, procuring of all equipment both within the companies excess stock and outside vendors, within a strictly limited budget.

Site Mechanical Engineer

At Kingsnorth Power Station, responsible for the erection, inspection and commissioning of all the mechanical plant on the 2000 MW station. Included the steam and gas turbines, feed heating and condensing plant, feed heating and condensing plant. Co ‑ ordination between all vendors and sub contractors to ensure safe, swift and efficient installation of all plant on behalf of the CEGB. Resolving contractual disputes, accepting hand over of equipment, issuing certification and withholding retention moneys for unacceptable equipment or exception to contract.

Operations Engineer

Responsible for the setting of operational limits on large steam turbines, run up rates and protection parameters. Site investigation of operational problems, calling up and fitting the necessary instrumentation. Recording and collating of results, diagnosing information, before reporting findings and recommendations to the design dept.
