CV

I am currently working from home doing freelance translation projects for national and international clients, translating from French and German into English.

I have my own website http://www.georgetrail.com

I have also worked in Hove as a software functionality tester with foreign languages (computer games). It required a good eye for detail and willingness to speculate how a product will be received by customers.

I enjoy working to deadlines and will show the "grace to appreciate the bigger picture" from the very beginning of my undertaking a task.

Employment History

(Nov 2008 & ongoing)

Freelance translator

Work from home

http://www.georgetrail.com

Largely self-explanatory - willing to translate long or short documents and also offer proof-reading and website translation services. Rates subject to length and complexity of material.

(Apr 2008 to May 2008)

Software functionality tester

Hove

My duties involved playing through foreign-language new-release computer games on various consoles and reporting text bugs on a LAN system (the software used varied from project to project). I was made to contribute to regression every other day.

(Oct 2007 to Oct 2007)

Admin assistant

Blackwater

I was one of a team responsible for faxing and keeping on the ball regarding paperwork related to clients' deliveries. I was happy to undertake routine tasks all day.

(May 2007 to Jun 2007)

Telemarketing consultant

Reading

Business-to-business telemarketing, in a target-driven environment. The day consisted of me making phone calls (no cold calling) while sat at a computer.

Professional Qualifications

None. All my qualifications are academic.

Education

(Aug 2005 to Jun 2006)

University of Portsmouth

Failed MA Translation Studies. The particular disciplines expected of students inside and outside the classroom went way over my head. I am just better suited to translating things like literature than jargon-riddled articles within domains like the legal, the medical or the technical.

(Sep 2001 to Jun 2006)

University of Kent

BA French and German Class 2.2. It included a Year Abroad at the University of Poitiers (where I was given classes in language and non-language subjects in native French). Presentations and other seminar assignments (usually covering foreign then-current affairs or, in the case of literature modules, subjects pertaining to the texts being studied), coursework, and the self-teaching of new grammar and vocabulary in the foreign languages were all integral parts of the course.
