| Prior to working freelance, I was Head of Communications at Community at Heart in Bristol, a partnership of local residents and agencies (including Bristol City Council, Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Bristol PCT) overseeing a £50 million government funded regeneration programme, tackling issues such as community safety, drug misuse, poor housing, unemployment, ill health and racism. I set up the communications unit from scratch, produced a comprehensive three-year communications and marketing strategy for the partnership and initiated successful community newspaper and radio projects run by local people. As well as working with Wiltshire County Council and the Environment Agency (see employment history below) I have provided a range of communications support to Bristol City Council, including production of the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit’s quarterly magazine, development of a communications strategy for The Bristol Partnership (local strategic partnership), and production of a regular newsletter for residents of the Barton Hill estate, keeping them informed of developments with a major block security and environmental improvement scheme, including the introduction of CCTV cameras and defensible spaces around each block of flats. Other public sector organisations I have worked for include the Legal Services Commission, IMAGE Project (European regeneration partnership), Second Step Housing Association and TACT (The Adolescent & Children’s Trust). |
