Senior Inspector and Team Leader for an IEC 60079-17 hazardous area inspection of Bonga, Shells newest and largest FPSO, offshore Nigeria. I was responsible for setting up the inspection and supervising a team of 6 inspectors and 6 electrical technicians. Responsibilities included sourcing all relevant hazardous area classification drawings, layout drawings and manufactures certificates of conformity before commencement of the inspection, then co-ordinating the inspection team through detailed inspections before start-up and close inspections post start-up. This was a 100% E & I inspection of the whole topside installation and included raising punchlists for non-conformances and any repairs necessary to bring up to 79-17 standards.

1999 - 2005 Atex Inspections Ltd.

Senior Electrical Inspector working at oil refineries, chemical

plants and LNG gas storage facilities doing IEC 79-17 hazardous area

electrical inspections. Also supervising repairs, maintenance

and updating of any non conforming equipment to bring it up to

the required British Standards. Fully trained to work in hazardous

areas and with permit to work and electrical isolation procedures.

Responsible for liaising with site engineers and plant managers to carry out the inspections which could take anything from 3 months to 1 year.

I had to carry out initial surveys and, on completion, deliver a report detailing repairs, recommendations and planned maintenance activities. Fully trained in I.T. / computers and British Standards including the new European Atex Directives governing Electrical Installations in Hazardous Areas.

1998 - 1999. BP Coryton oil refinery, essex.

Electrical Inspector at BP doing BS EN 60079-17 inspections.

Working from hazardous area classification drawings and LEAC

sheets doing close and detailed inspections. All areas of the refinery were inspected including sea tanker loading jetties and tank farm through to cracking, fuels, gas turbine power generation etc.

1992 - 1998. Norsk Hydro. East Africa.

Working for Hydro Agri International (Oslo) as Electrical

Supervisor in charge of ex-pats and local labour for the commissioning

and start up of new projects in Kenya, Eritrea, Tanzania and Djibouti.

The job involved the running and maintenance of automated

plants handling bulk materials and on the job training of local

personnel. Work included generators, power distribution, motor

control centres, compressors, pneumatics, conveyor systems,

computer/plc/relay-logic control systems, instrumentation and

developing a planned maintenance programme.

1991-92 James Scott Ltd. AMEC Offshore, Wallsend.

Construction of offshore production platforms for Mobil and

Marathon Oil. Work included installation of all types of

containment (ladder rack, tray plate, conduit etc) and wiring,

glanding & terminating on MCC's, fire & gas, HVAC, valve

control, small power and lighting. Also panel wiring and

terminating in HV / LV switchrooms.

1990-91 Crown House Engineering. BNFL, Cumbria.

Instrument technician working on installation and commissioning

of British Nuclear Fuels EP2 encapsulation plant at Sellafield. Equipment included dangerous material handling and loading

facilities and automatic/pneumatic control systems in secure caves. A lot of the work involved compliance with hazardous area specs and robotics.

1989 - 1990 Norsk Hydro. Mombasa and Dar es Salaam.

Electrical Technician responsible for the running and maintenance

of automated plants for the handling of bulk materials and for

supervising local labour. Equipment included power generators, 3

phase distribution, motor control centres, compressors, pneumatics,

conveyor systems, computer / plc / relay control systems and

instrumentation.
