Project management: Set up financial and manpower budgets for projects worth a total of £1.5M, including liaison with other MoD agencies. Also reporting on progress in a written and oral form.

Support to Customers & End Users: Answered technical queries from users, scientific advisers, Other Government Departments, and MoD agencies. Including advice on installation and operation of communications systems, and diagnosing and providing solutions to unique problems.

Support to Suppliers. Specified and evaluated products made by suppliers. Ensured final product was fit for purpose, and future needs.

Trials: Led field trials assessing performance of communications systems.





Senior Microwave Engineer with Thales Defence Ltd. [October 1997 to December 2003]

Lead Design Engineer: Led team of multi-disciplinary team in successful development of a high power amplifier, test equipment module, and microwave receiver module.

Design: Responsible for design of 0.5 to 18 GHz units, from concept to full production. Including an oscillator, receiver, and high power amplifier. Also Elements and components using Microstrip technology.

Customer liaison: Wrote presentation on a company product design, which I presented to a customer for approval of expenditure. Resulted in extra £200,000 expenditure being approved, and the design being completed.

Radiation Awareness: Developed and Presented material on radiation sources used by Thales, to (amongst others) the Board of Directors. This resulted in senior management being aware of responsibilities, clear signage, and increased employee understanding across all sites.

Electro-Static Safety: Responsible for co-ordinating Electrostatic safety policy across entire site. I was also a member of the electrostatic safety policy committee.

Health & Safety: Helped formulate policy on evacuation of contaminated room by staff, enabling legal responsibilities to be covered, and greater understanding by evacuation team.

Technical Skills

Information Technology: Experienced user of Microsoft Office ® applications. Writing macros in VBA to manipulate data into a usable format.

Computer Aided Design (with Finite Element Analysis): Experienced user of Design tools including Microwave Office ®, AutoCAD ®, Ansoft ® HFSS, and Agilent ADS ®.

Technical Writing: Technical Reports, Trials Plans, Risk assessments, Production Test Specifications, Procurement Specifications, Bid Proposals, Design Specifications, and Project Management Plans. Also communicating progress and technical issues via presentations.

Professional Qualifications and Training

Chartered Engineer, and member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology,

Member of the Institute of Physics.

Project Management Courses from both Thales and Dstl, detailing project management theory and practise.
