A telecommunications engineer with over 12 years of experience of communications systems used by the Army and the oil and maritime industries worldwide. Highly motivated with excellent flexibility and communication skills. Used to working around the clock in operational and sometimes highly volatile envoirements. Key Skills & Experience

Excellent knowledge of stabilised and fixed satellite systems and associated equipment.

Excellent knowledge of network connectivity using various media, such as switches and routers.

Excellent knowledge of the Mitel SX-200, SX-2000 and Nortel Option 11C PABX systems, including voice-mail systems.

Responsible for PBX controls and best practices using Exxonmobil and Esso standards in Luanda, Angola.

Achieved basic IT skills, such as IP address resets, setting up network printers and basic PC fault finding.

Responsible for the onsite training of national employees in Luanda Angola, on installation and day to day maintenance of all equipment. This has resulted in a better quality of service to the users.

Good knowledge of many test equipment's, such as Spectrum analysers and T1&E1 test sets.

Ability to fault find using flow charts and circuit diagrams.

Career history

Feb 2005 to date: Field Technician (Caprock UK LTD) Installation and maintenance of stabilised satellite systems. (SaeTel 9697, 4003, 4996, 6092, 9797).

Build and testing of equipment racks prior to deployment to a set standard.

Currently contracted out to Pretrofac LTD as a Radio Operator/Telecoms maintenance tech.

This involves carrying out planned maintenance on all forms of communications throughout the platform using guidelines and maintenance routines set by the operator.

Have begun to modify existing routines to better suit the communications setup on the Heather Platform.

Have also written and submitted new maintenance routines which are currently being reviewed.

Other duties include handling air traffic to and from the platform when necessary.

Familiar with all safety systems employed by Petrofac.

Fully conversant with the ISSOW permit to work system

2001 to February 2005: Contracted (via Caprock Uk Ltd) to Esso Exploration Block 15 Ltd in West Africa, Luanda, Angola working on a 28 day rotation.

Part of the GIS (Global Information Systems team) which is responsible for maintaining all forms of communication used on and offshore right down to user level.

Heavily involved in the switchover of an entire office block; comprising of 11 floors, from an SX-200 PBX system to the Nortel Option 11C system complete with peripheral devices and voicemail (Meridian Mail and CallPilot). This also included several E1 and T1 links to other locations throughout Angola.

Installed microwave systems to remote sites on and offshore using T1 and E1 links Installed and maintained HF, VHF and UHF radio systems.

Have configured and implemented Call Detail Recording on all PBX's including the creation of detailed procedures to use the CDR software (Microcall).

Gained limited knowledge of the 2500 and 3600 series Cisco routers.

Created and maintained numerous databases and diagrams for the connectivity of all equipment, including personnel locations using Visio 5, excel and word.

1998 to 2001: Caprock UK Ltd. Communication's specialist.

Main responsibilities were installing and maintaining stabilised and fixed satellite systems plus equipment to interface with the existing customer systems.

Have installed and maintained various Inmarsat systems such as Saturn B and C on boats and offshore installations.

Helped to restructure a new office for phones and data when the company moved to new offices, also helped to build, test and commission a six meter earth station, which has been operational for nearly four years and supports numerous offshore and overseas satellite links.

Helped to build the network operations centre from which the earth station is controlled.

Installed and maintained P.A. systems on and offshore.

1993 to 1998: HM Forces (Army) Telecommunications Systems Technician.

Responsible for the maintenance, service and repair of all communications equipment used in the Ptarmigan system.

Reached the rank of Corporal within 3 years.

Have led communication sites with up to 9 installations and 30 personnel.

Have been in charge of a technical workshop with four junior technicians, allocating work, duty rosters, plus ongoing training and writing progress reports which were seen at a high management level.

Was part of a team that designed, built, installed and maintained a telephone and data network for IFOR HQ in the former Republic of Yugoslavia.

Planned and implemented detailed technical inspection programs on communication installations within the army Issued and ordered technical stores and updated stock databases.

Have updated technical support publications and associated literature by liasing with outside authorities.

Was part of a modification team, which was responsible for upgrading equipment, this involved planning for taking equipment out of service, performing the modifications, testing and re-commissioning.
