Commenced my career in Marine Engineering as a cadet with Cayzer Irvine & Co Ltd, London in September 1969 @ The Plymouth School of Maritime Studies and achieved an O.N.Diploma in Marine Engineering in 1971. After 1 year of sea going experience I completed my cadetship @ Southampton College of Technology, gaining endorsements in electrics/electronics, Naval Architecture & Ship construction on my O.N.Diploma in July 1973.

Primary & secondary education @ Wolverdine Primary School & Andover Secondary Boys School.

After 1 year of sea going experience I completed my cadetship @ Southampton College of Technology, gaining endorsements in electrics/electronics, Naval Architecture & Ship construction on my O.N.Diploma in July 1973.
1976 :-I studied for, and acquired a 2 nd Class Certificate of Competency (Motor) @ Southampton College of Technology aged 22 (the youngest to do so at that time).
1977 :- Left Cayzer Irvine and joined Bibby Line Ltd of Liverpool to gain experience.
1978 :- Left Bibby Line and joined T.J.Harrisons of Liverpool to gain further experience.
1979 :- I studied for and acquired a 1 st Class Certificate of Competency (Motor) @ Southampton College of Technology aged 25.
I joined B&I line / Irish Ferries Ltd in July 26 th 1979 as a Junior 2 nd Engineer on the Irish sea ferry M.V. Connought.
1983 :- Commenced studies with the Open University studying Technology and Social Sciences.
1986 :- Bought a plot of land in Burntwood, Drury and commenced to build our present house.
1987 :- Had to give up Open University Studies to concentrate on house build.
1988 :- Moved into house in November.
1997 :- Promoted to Chief Engineer:-
Responsible for the running and maintenance of all machinery items on board the companies vessels and reporting to the Superintendent Engineer. This included all survey work for the various regulatory authorities including Lloyds, D.N.V., and the Dept of the Marine for both the U.K. & Ireland. The machinery included main & auxiliary engines, all safety equipment and the full hotel services (sewerage, air conditioning etc ). On one new state of the art ferry this included a 6.6 KVA electrical system. I was responsible for a staff of 5 engineers, 2 electricians & 5 mechanics.
During my 26 years employment with Irish Ferries I have attended numerous courses including many first aid courses culminating in First Responder First Aid (1 week), 2 x four day fire fighting courses and I am trained in the use of breathing apparatus, sea survival, and crowd control.
2002 :- Purchase of derelict cottage outside Roscommon Town, Southern Ireland with a view to renovating same for holiday home. Plans submitted and planning permission obtained. Now ongoing.
2006 :- Accepted voluntary redundancy in February 2006.
