PROJECT MANAGER: ABB Ltd.

Responsible to the Project Director for monitoring and co-ordination of a team of Project Managers across 2 off projects to be carried out on behalf on National Grid. The combined original contract value of the projects is in excess of £76,000,000.00.

These projects involved a multi-national consortium and required the development of skills to act as a bridge across the cultural gaps and provide a platform for the resolution of inter-consortium disputes.

Responsibilities included monitoring of progress against the project programme and re-prioritisation of individuals or companies to ensure timely completion balanced against financial impacts. Leading teams preparing Claims to the client, including the negotiation of the Claims leading to an increase in Contract value in excess of 25%. Supporting project managers in analysing and negotiating Claims from suppliers. Preparation and co-presenting of financial and progress reviews for the consortium partners at board room level.





Jul 2000 to Oct 2001



PROJECT MANAGER: ABB Ltd.

Responsible for project completion within the programme, budget and technical parameters agreed between ABB and National Grid. The project included challenges surrounding the integration of new technologies into the existing Electricity Transmission Network system which complied with the technical and operational requirements of the client.

Project delivery included the identification of 3 rd party suppliers and negotiation of Contracts for the provision of materials and resource, including negotiation of post-Contract Claims.

The original contract value of the project was in excess of £11,000,000.00. This was successfully delivered with a 20% increase in revenues and 1% increase in margin.

Mar 1999 to Jul 2000



TENDERING ENGINEER: ABB Ltd.

Bid Manager of projects for clients such as National Grid and Scottish Power. Responsibilities included the review of clients' commercial & technical specifications, the identification and co-ordination of ABB staff and sub-contractors to produce preliminary solutions to meet client's specification and leading subsequent technical and commercial negotiations.

Projects secured ranged in value from £100,000 to £24,000,000. Contracts awarded included ABB's first stand alone Control System projects for National Grid and the trialling and integration of new technologies within the substation environment on behalf of National Grid. All projects were awarded under a competitive bid situation.





Sep 1994 to Mar 1999



TENDERING ENGINEER, Control Systems: Cruickshank's Ltd.

Responsible for pursuit of opportunities from existing customer base and identification of potential new customers. This involved travel to offices of UK and overseas clients to gain first hand knowledge of their requirements and to market the capabilities of Cruickshank's to fulfil these needs. Clients included Scottish Power, National Grid, Electricity Generating Authority Thailand, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Ministry of Electricity and Water, Sultanate of Oman.

Conducting research and co-authoring of paper identifying the benefits Control Systems could bring to utilities.
