Project 4: M8 corridor bridge maintenance strategy (6 yrs assessment programme) - current

Carrying out desk studies & risk assessment for structures coming across M8 trunk road network in Scotland, such as bridges, ramps, retaining walls, High mast lights and sign/signal gantries. There are almost 870 such structures that are supposed to be assessed by prioritising structures referring to the Principal inspection & General inspection reports issued by the client.

Project 3: Structural Category II checks for contiguous piles retaining wall for WAF Edinburgh: current: - In accordance with BD 42/00 & BS 5400: Part 4 along with SAND software.

Project 2: Design of Wing wall for Kharg Island (Seismic zone) - located in IRAN - completed

Carried out wing wall design fully in accordance with BS 8002: 1994 along with BS 5400: Part 4 modified by BD 24/92 and Euro code 8: part 5 (for soil parameters).

Achieved the detail concept of designing retaining walls, got a broad idea on the practical picture how the wall will behave in a seismic zone. Used SAND software for crosscheck of hand design cal's, therefore familiar with all the relevant design codes and SAND software.

Project 1: Traffic studies for Forth Road Bridge (Feasibility studies) - Edinburgh - completed

Carried out a part of traffic studies which dealt with analysis of traffic volume crossing over the bridge, optimised Queue lengths to calculate critical load the bridge would withstand in the future years using data analysis (BSALL).

Trainee Civil Engineer - Jagruthi Constructions, Hyderabad India

As a Trainee Civil Engineer, I looked for Structural detailing work which was verified by the Chief Engineer, and a part of this also included supervision of the work. The project was construction of various blocks whose estimated cost was around 10 million Indian rupees.

Responsibilities:

ˇ Structural work, which included the reinforcement schedule in slabs, beams, footings, columns & checking out the bar bending schedule

ˇ Inspection of site, checking the progress & execution of work on site according to drawings and specifications.

ˇ Interaction with Client & subcontractors involved in the project.

Achievements/learning:

ˇ Analysed and designed the Structure using packages like STAAD & QSE.

ˇ Planning & orientation done by using AutoCAD.

ˇ Managerial strategies while dealing with Labourers.

ˇ Good relationship with key Engineers & Client.

Thesis was on space trusses titled as "Snap-fit connection system in trusses", the important aspect of this project was designing a type of connection that minimizes the cost of joint assembly by reducing the time of connection between the members of a truss, & I believe that reducing time in assembly would directly speed up other construction activities on site.
