Employment History

June 2005 - Currently

Data Centre Operator, 'Server Support', Global IT

Huntsman Tioxide, Haverton Hill Road, Billingham

Providing both Server, and Desktop support in both a "Thin", and "Fat" PC Network. Daily use of Administering Servers using Citrix Metaframe XP, providing IT Support , and Fault Diagnosis using Remote management for clients all over the world.

Duties Include……

  • Server/Desktop Support for a Global IT 24\7 Organisation, based in over 20 countries.
  • System administration using tools such as "Citrix Metaframe XP", Active Directory, "Terminal Services", Remote desktop Connection, etc.
  • Monitoring of Network, and its associated Hardware, using tools such as "Solarwinds", "SNMP", "MOM", "Netflow", etc.
  • Lotus Notes Administration, across our Global IT including Mailbox Corruption repairs, within the "Domino Service", as and when required. Also creating daily back-up of Notes, and database Servers, to provide a "Fail-Safe" restore if and when needed.
  • Fault diagnosis on Servers, using "in-built" tools within server 2000\2003, or "Dell Open-manage", and once fault has been identified, to get fault repaired by what procedures are in place to do so.
  • Installing, as required Printer queues on relevant printer servers, and testing before releasing to the "End User".
  • Re-builds, and software\Patch updates to servers all over the world, either by RIS "Remote Installation Server, RDP, or deployment through the CMC, "Citrix Management Console".
  • Executing weekly reboots of servers all over the world as and when requested.
  • Fault diagnosis, and problem solving, for clients all over the world using Remote management tools such as VNC, Citrix CMC, to aid with whatever issues they have.
  • Conducting Daily and weekly "Back-ups", using both "Veritas Backup-exec", or "Brightstor".
  • Performing again Daily, and Weekly Tape changing and vaulting, not only locally in our own Server room, but by liaising with IT staff in Belgium, China, and the USA so I can Import, and Export Tapes from the Libraries by either again using Backup Exec, or through the Libraries RMU, Remote Management Unit.

Desktop Support Technician

Dupontsa, Wilton Site, Wilton Redcar

A 3 Month Contract covering Holiday Relief, providing desktop support for their entire Polyurethane Site on the old ICI Wilton site in Redcar.

Duties Included…

  • Desktop support across their entire site, including Hazardous, and restricted areas on the chemical plant.
  • Install of PC's, Laptops, Printers, and other associated hardware as required.
  • Upgrades, and repairs to Hardware as and when required.
  • Imaging of PC's and laptops as per "End - User" requirements.
  • Software installs, again as per "End - User" requirements.
  • System administration across the plant to ensure smooth running of departments IT Infrastructure.
  • Making sure that all Hardware\software that has been issued, is logged and tagged to ensure an audit trail is available.

November 1999- February 2005

IT Analyst, 'Senior Analyst'

Churchill Insurance LTD, Pearson Court, Stockton on Tees

Provided IT support and System Administration to entire company over a "Multi Domain Network".

Duties included…

  • System Administration using Active Directory on a daily basis to administer the whole Domain. Daily "Back-ups" of vital data, and other security related issues.
  • Administration over "Exchange" server, creating E-mail accounts, Distribution Lists etc, and updating existing accounts, as per clients requirements.
  • Troubleshooting, on Hardware/Software, which is installed, but is not functioning correctly, this was by both by site visits or Remote Management, using VNC, RP32, Terminal Server Etc.
  • Liaising with 1 st/2 nd, and 3 rd line support, to ensure that all problems logged by clients, are logged correctly, and resolutions fed back to the relevant departments.
  • Eventually became 'Senior Analyst', responsible for supervising up to 10 analysts, providing training, 121 sessions, appraisals etc, to ensure smooth and efficient running of the department.
  • Being responsible for any "Change Delivery" requests from the business and then liaising with the "Project Management" teams to ensure delivery of these requests are within customer's expectations.
  • Accurately, Logging calls, through the "Front-range" Call Logging application "Heat", and making sure that call logged by my team were also accurate, and closed with the correct resolution, this then creating an In-house Knowledge Base, for the Frontline Staff.
  • 'Trend Analysis', to highlight, and rectify common and reoccurring issues, as to make department more efficient.
  • Offering help and advice, whilst on the sales\customer service floors, to any IT related issues.
  • Offered my services with the creation of an internal IT 'Intranet Site', where as clients, could check problems themselves, i.e., server down, network resource running slow, etc. This aided in lowering the Service Desk's call volumes at peak times, and also kept clients informed on timescales for fixes. This was a huge success within the group.

Previous Employment

Prior to my move over to an IT role, I trained as a Car Insurance salesperson, and Team Leader for Churchill Insurance, and before that from leaving school, I was a Carpet Fitter working all over the UK, and sometimes abroad. It was lack of work that initially made me look for alternative employment with Churchill Insurance, and I have not looked back ever since.

I have just started this Cisco Qualification, and am enjoying the experience of learning a new skill.

Skilled knowledge and daily use in most platforms, including Windows Server 2003, Server 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2000, NT4, and MS Office .Daily use of Active Directory, DHCP, Citrix Meta-frame XP. I also have extensive knowledge in, "Veritas" Backup Exec, Exchange Server, Lotus Notes, and various Remote Management tools including VNC, Remotely Possible, and Remote Desktop Sharing, and I am striving to increase this list further.
