I was part of an extremely successful team that created a linear manufacturing facility for production of seats for this first tier automotive supplier. During my time here I was involved in many of the fundamental elements of manufacturing systems, such as basic production layout, material flow, tooling, material handling, and process documentation.

Oct 2000 to Jan 2002 Product Development Manager (Contract/Permanent)

Pilot Industries (UK) Limited, Basildon

First tier supplier to the automotive industry. I was responsible for a team of Product Development Engineers, Toolmakers and Plant Maintenance staff that manufactured prototypes and maintained the tooling and production equipment for the manufacture of flow system products. Group restructuring made this position redundant.

March '00 to Oct. '00 Manufacturing Consultant

K. V. Automation, Milton Keynes.

My task was to evaluate and recommend any improvements and/or alternative manufacturing systems to create a world class manufacturing facility for this company that manufactures pneumatic components. I appraised all of the existing processes from the raw material receipt, the various manufacturing processes and systems, through to component packaging.

My presentation to the Board of Directors was extremely well received and I understand that my recommendations have been introduced.

May '99 to Dec. '99 Manufacturing Engineer (Contract)

Think Technologies, Aurskog, Norway.

I was part of a team that created the manufacturing facility for this Ford owned company. My primary function was to evaluate, procure and then introduce tooling for the manufacturing facility.

My responsibilities were widened to include the determination, planning and implementation of a broad spectrum of manufacturing requirements suitable for production of vehicle assembly. During much of this time I was directly responsible for managing a rapidly changing production department on a day-to-day basis. I was also responsible for the introduction of QS9000.

Lucas Aerospace, Wolverhampton.

I was a member of a team installing 'lean manufacturing' and 'one-piece flow' techniques. I created and headed a new team to introduce an electronic S.P.C. system. The success with which we completed this work, led to my being given additional responsibility when I led a second team of Manufacturing Engineers, Draughtsmen and C.N.C. Programmers, for cell implementation. The work of the team included, initial component identification, through cell planning, FMEA, scheduling, APQP, machine identification, machine programming, operator training, and installation, final commissioning and PPAP. This was complemented by the introduction of Kanban, Poke Yoke, level scheduling, S.M.E.D; 7 (+ 1) wastes, Takt time evaluation and implementation of the procedure, 5 S's, machine capability studies, etc.

Member of a small team created to transfer the manufacturing process of the Prestige and Paladin low floor buses, to Plaxton's site at Scarborough. This work was carried out to extremely tight schedules due to contractual requirements. All aspects of vehicle manufacture where handled from initial chassis preparation through assembly of B.I.W, running gear, internal trim, etc; until final finish and P.D.I. of the vehicle.

The project was completed on schedule with a considerable reduction in labour times due to improved production methods and 'design for manufacture' (DFM) rationalisation, introduced during the transfer.
