Project Station Enhancement Project
Working within a project group implementing a programme of station improvements. I am currently engaged on a project to replace the existing electro-pneumatic system controlling the steam supply to the station's 2 Emergency Boiler Feed Pump Turbines with a modern PLC based systems. My role within the project to provide the cabling and installation design for the new field instrumentation and control devices, detailing the interface requirements to other existing station systems, overseeing the, manufacture, inspection and factory testing of the new PLC control panels. Other duties include, managing the contractors, both electrical and mechanical engaged in the installation of the new control and pipework systems, controlling all affected existing station documentation to ensure all are amended to reflect the new design and on completion of the installation part of the test team carrying out the testing and commissioning of the system.

Responsible to the QA/QC Manager for monitoring the installation of a new communications system (radio, video, and data) being installed throughout the London Underground, which covers all stations, tracks and LUL offices. My specific roll is to monitor all contractors and their works associated with the communication system which includes, equipment cabinets, cable support systems, data, radio, power and fibre optic cable installations on the 269 stations. In addition to monitoring for compliance with project specifications and good installation practises other aspects covered are to ensure; all work activities are carried out safely, build documentation being used is approved and to the correct revision, approved method statements are being followed and other safety related documentation implemented, the installation and testing of the works is being carried out in accordance with the site Inspection and Test Plan. The surveillances are submitted on a report to the QA/QC manager and would include any other related issues such as damaged or defective materials, potential problems that may arise because of installation methods or materials used etc.

Project No.5 Blast Furnace Rebuild, Corus Steelworks Port Talbot
Responsible to the Project Director for implementing the design, installation and testing and commissioning of the field instrumentation and motor control systems associated with the Furnace Off Gas Treatment Plant. The basis of the design was derived from the I/O listing of the Clients ABB distributed control system and motor control centre. Duties include producing working drawings from the I/O listings which includes cable block diagrams, termination schedules, cable schedules and instrument loop-diagrams, procurement of materials, supervising a small team of tradesmen and technicians implementing the works with much of the commissioning works being hands-on. Also, due to the fast-track nature of the project, attending daily meeting with the client to review progress and resolve any engineering issues. Finally, on completion of the works, to ensure all test documentation and 'As Built' drawings were submitted for handover.

Responsible to the site Quality Manager for implementing a programme of works to be carried out by the E/I subcontractors for ensuring the preservation and protection of all instruments and electrical equipment prior to and during the construction of a 127000 tonne/pa BDO plant. Reviewing and approving sub contractors site test and inspection plans, and monitoring for compliance during construction, which included formal quality audits of the subcontractors. Carrying out routine inspection of the works to ensure good installation practises and that the materials used were in accordance with the project requirements, and conformed to the requirement for electrical installations in hazardous areas.. Executing combined inspections with the client of instrument and electrical installations prior to handover. In the final stages of the project was also given the task of supervising and monitoring the installation and testing of some 16kms of electric trace heating and its associated power systems.

Responsible to the SCADA Commissioning Manager for supervising the vendor engineers engaged in the commissioning of a SCADA system controlling 6 pumping stations, 2 pressure reducing stations and storage terminal on a 830 km oil pipeline running from the Caspian Sea in Azebaijan to the Black Sea coast of Georgia. Other duties included, witnessing system function testing, co-ordinating and liaising with operations as the system was being integrated onto a live pipeline; supervising technicians engaged in loop testing.

Position Instrument/ Electrical Maintenance Manager
Responsible to the Director of Operations for managing all aspects of the Instrument and Electrical departments and personnel relating to the maintenance of a 50 MW waste to energy power station. The Plant comprised of 4 x 12.5 MW Generating Sets, 5 incinerators / boilers, 4 flue gas treatment plants, and all associated utility plant, which included 2 waste collection stations. Other duties include providing engineering support to the Projects Group. Major projects under reviewed were; the installation of a SCADA system to centralise the Boiler plant control, the proposed construction of a second Edmonton incinerator plant comprising of a 35 tonne/hr waste incinerator, flue gas treatment plant and power generation plant. I was also responsible for implementing a quality assurance programme within the department as part of the company's ISO 9002 accreditation.
