SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE

I have over 20 years of control and instrumentation work experience including a substantial period in design (10 years) and construction/commissioning (4 years). I have a broad base of knowledge that, additional to the above, includes, 18 months at the University of Salford gaining an MSc in Industrial Control Systems, maintenance (1 year), control applications (6 months) and 4 years apprenticeship.

I've worked in many fields and can offer a broad spectrum of past projects including 6 years in the Oil and Gas Industry, 3 years in the Petrochemical industry, 2 years each in the Pharmaceutical and Steel Industries and shorter periods in the Food, Chemical, FGD and Nuclear industries.

September 2005 to present - FGD Project, Eggborough Power Station, Selby, UK.

C&I Engineer

Responsible for the overall maintenance of a newly commissioned PLC/SCADA system running the FGD plant at Eggborough Power Station. Developed relevent procedures for defeating interlocks during breakdowns, operations and server/workstation backups. Raised PCR's as required for software modifications to the Allen-Bradley Logix 5000 Controllogix PLC and IFix SCADA systems. Involved in software mod verification and testing.

Jan 2005 to August 2005 - Pemex HAKUMS Accommodation Platforms, SLP , Lowestoft.

Senior Instrument Design Engineer (Fire & Gas)

Developed Safety System, F&G detection and Clean Agent specifications. Also engineered and developed F&G layouts and Cause & Effect matrices. Involved in the Bid phase of the project to determine a SIL 3 rated Control System and likely vendor to safely control & monitor 2 off accommodation platform utilities. Liased with suppliers and the client to ensure work progressed to specification, plan and budget.

Principal Instrument Design Engineer

Responsible for a small group of Engineers and Designers to provide detailed workscope documents and drawings for the controlled demolition work of various skids including FEED studies and detailed design for a new Methanol Skid. Actively involved and worked closely with the client to provide engineering solutions at agreeable costs to suit both parties.

Produced cost estimates, basic planning and workscopes/workpacks to upgrade/maintain/commission FCV's, F&G detection, PSV's and borehole water level control. Involved with FEED, detailed design and initial construction stages. Identified software problems in PLC logic (AB PLC-5) and proposed solution. Installed PLC logic, tested and commissioned.

Responsible for delivering front-end technical specifications and front-end instrumentation documents/drawings to the main client (SPDC Nigeria). Liased with clients on a consultancy basis to answer any queries raised by their bidders/ vendors and suppliers. Required to attend various meetings with clients and suppliers including HAZOP meetings. Attained knowledge of IEC 61508 to assign SIL to SIF's. Also attained knowledge of Foundation Field bus.

Involved in answering any technical/engineering queries the contractor (Logica) may have. As part of a small team surveyed and audited all sites in the North West to eventually result in the upgrade of all of this regions telemetery systems (160+).

C & I Engineer (Design, Construction and Commissioning)

Site survey of 5 molasses/sugar fermenters + utilities. Created engineering design documents - I/O Schedules, Datasheets etc. Specified and ordered instrumentation. Developed process and sequence control narratives ready for implementation onto a Foxboro I/A DCS. Oversaw construction sub-contractor. Actively involved in commissioning the DCS, field instrumentation and plant process.

April 1999 to September 1999 - Balder FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) Project (ESSO Norway) - ABB, Port Glasgow

DCS Commissioning Engineer

Involved in the pre-commissioning of most systems associated with this type of project. I.e. ESD, F&G, PSD and Topsides. Scope of work mainly consisted of assisting the clients (ESSO) techs with solving hardware system faults and highlighting software faults on ABB's MasterPiece and MasterAdvant equipment. Knowledge attained of ABB's AMPL programming language, including PC elements and configuring Database elements. Designed and built Typecircuits.

Produced documents explaining the analogue and digital control philosophy of a DMF distillation plant. Designed ESD relay logic systems and relay logic sequencing to control the above plant. Created a design package (ie. Instrument index, Cable block diagrams, Cabinet layout, loop, Process hook‑up, Pneumatic hook‑up, Location drawings, Bulk MTO's etc.) for construction and commissioning.

February 1994 to April 1995 - Roche Products Dalry Ayrshire Scotland - CHP DCS Replacement Project

Surveyed two oil fired boilers and steam turbines. Up‑dated PID and instrument location drawings. Designed the interfacing of existing equipment (i.e. Burner Management, Turbine Control, Generator Control systems etc.) to an ABBMASTERPIECE DCS from a KENT P4000 system. Specified and ordered instrumentation and other equipment. Commissioning Engineer responsible for High Pressure Coolant Injection, Reactor Building Spray and Residual Heat Removal Systems.
