PROJECT ENGINEERING

Chemical pressure vessels and rotating equipment; power station and marine auxiliary machinery; deep sea diving chambers and gas storage/mixing/handling facilities; toxic and corrosive pharmaceutical process systems including reactor and vacuum systems, hydraulic power installations, heat exchange systems, nuclear submarine refueling facility and special purpose remote mechanical handling equipment for nuclear power stations. Involved from the inquiry stage through project cost estimation; design proposals; surveys and reports; contract specification writing; design office liaison; HAZOP, risk assessment, project planning, contract manufacture, expediting, change control, installation and commissioning supervision; commissioning specifications, method statements, progress reporting; project budget control; operations and maintenance manual writing, QA documentation to FDA/GMP, CDM, BS5750 and ISO9001, and hazardous waste documentation control to ISO14001 : 1996..

DESIGN ENGINEERING/DRAUGHTING

With pressure vessels to PD5500 & ASME VIII, manufacturing detail drawings of precision components with geometric tolerancing and application of value engineering principles; structural steelwork including design calculations; machinery and piping layouts; pipe supports; power station, petro-chemical plant and ship's machinery space layouts, including rotating machinery technical specification; design of oil and coal fired shell and water-tube boilers including fuel & feed water systems; tension/motion compensators and associated accumulators and gas storage; power hydraulic systems; pneumatic control; mechanical and pneumatic handling systems.

MAINTENANCE PLANNING

Mechanical and multi-discipline equipment on offshore and onshore oil and gas production facilities using both the Teroman (Epmars) and Trident computerised software systems; drafting of planned preventive maintenance (PPM) routines, scheduling plant shutdowns with the production planning group; organisation of personnel, spare parts, workboats and inspection authority support of maintenance activities; determination of condition monitoring parameters and key performance indicators, management analysis reporting, and writing computer programs for specialist database reports using the Quiz interrogation software.

CONSTRUCTION PLANNING

Responsible for the creation and maintenance of a 90-Day look-ahead plan to optimise all civil, mechanical, electrical and instrument work executed through Service Contracts, and the planning of station shutdowns for new construction and major modification projects. The plans accounted for priorities and constraints imposed by other areas sharing the same resources, and included work breakdown structures. Progress and exception reporting against plans. Highlighting and resolving resource bottlenecks and conflicts. Creating Scopes of Work for each job for competitive bidding by Service Contractors, analysing bids and issuing job orders. Utilising MS Project, Primavera P3, Project Scheduler PS6 and EZ System (finance) software.

Involved from defining internal customer requirements, assisting process engineer in the development of design specification, costing, purchase specifications, quotation appraisal, purchase requisitions, liaison with drawing office during engineering, contractor workscopes, CDM safety plans, project planning, budget control, monthly reports, arranging tie-ins & shut-downs with Production, liaison with field engineers, pre-start-up safety plans, start-up, hand-over, but-lists, project close-outs.

MAINTENANCE/PROJECT ENGINEER (Contract) Aug 2003 - June 2005

GLAXOSMITHKLINE, Dartford, Kent

As 1999 employment with GlaxoWellcome plus design modifications to existing equipment involving inflatable seals and weight reduction for mechanical handling, and preparation for and interviews during, the HSE COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) site audit of 2004, including risk analysis of solvent piping, tankage and bundage, development of compliant inspection routines and remedial work for the audit. Legionella control, mechanical handling assessments. Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the isolation and decommissioning of redundant process plant and buildings.

Creating proposal drawings in AutoCad 14 of filter and coalescer vessels up to 2m diameter, 150 bar g design pressure response to Client's enquiries, creating P&IDs and layouts for packaged equipment, fabricator bid analysis and project control during manufacture, project documentation (NDE procedures, WPS/PQR, quality plans, CE engineering safety requirements and hazard analysis, project plans, concession requests, installation & operation manuals) submission and approval.

Alstom Power (Hydro) Ltd, Rugby, Warwickshire and Dingwall, Ross & Cromarty

On-site Project Planning Engineer, local Purchaser, and Document Controller for the refurbishment of two 15MW hydro-electric power stations (Torr Achilty & Orrin) for South of Scotland Electricity Board. Work includes site updating of Plans and performance analysis for weekly meetings & monthly reports, writing scopes of work and purchase orders for local subcontractors and suppliers, arranging the recertification of lifting gear, breathing apparatus, etc, arranging craneage and heavy transport to move equipment offsite, site coist reporting. Audited for hazardous waste tracking documentation by Lloyds for the Company's successful accreditation to ISO 14001

MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER (Contract) Sept 2001 to Mar 2002

KVAERNER PROCESS Ltd, Fareham, Hants

Project planning and document control for a £250M greenfield pharmaceutical site in Ireland. Assessing impact of site change requests on programme, chasing vendors for late documentation, etc. Project engineering of primary and secondary manufacturing facility modifications, upgrades, decommissioning, contaminated waste disposal and demolition at the GSK site in Worthing. Project plans in MS Project 2000 and Primavera P3, scopes of work, sub-contract liaison, bid analysis, design reviews, etc.
