Career Summary

Having conducted an EITB first year engineering training board sponsorship at Ingersoll Rand, Manchester I secured an electrical engineering technician apprenticeship at shot blast machinery manufacturer, Tilghman Wheelabrator, Altrincham. I progressed from the shop floor into the engineering design office and became responsible for all aspects of relay and PLC based control systems for the manufactured machinery and conveying systems.

During the same period I gained a HNC in electrical & electronic engineering at North Trafford and South Manchester Technical Colleges. Gained further experience in the machinery environment at Simon Container Machinery prior to working on various contracts in the nuclear, materials handling, chemical, food and pharmaceutical process industries.

Technical experience covers the specification, design and commissioning of electrical systems, PLC/SCADA based control & Instrumentation systems inclusive of SCADA and PLC code configuration.

Within the last several years I have progressed from detail design roles to lead and principal engineer roles responsible for project implementation from the project enquiry and approval for capital expenditure stage, user requirement analysis and scope definition stage through to site commissioning and client handover, satisfying project budgets and timescales.

Principal C & I Engineer. (October 2000 To Present )

Haden Freeman Ltd.

Responsible for the implementation of electrical, control & instrumentation systems for projects within the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors, managing in-house project teams and sub-contractors.

Projects within the pharmaceutical sector consisted of batch production plants, product formulation & primary container filling lines and secondary container packaging lines subject to the requirements of the validation lifecycle, GAMP4 and 21CFR Part 11 secure data storage and retrieval requirements.

Projects varied from full turn-key multidiscipline based projects for provision of new batch manufacturing processes and plants to the upgrade or replacement of legacy control systems.

Control system hardware and software components utilized on the various projects have consisted of :-

· Rockwell Automation RSView / Controllogix / SLC500 / Controlnet / Devicenet,

· Group Schneider Quantom and Premium PLC systems and Monitor Pro SCADA

· Siemens S7/400 PLC systems,

· MTL Most 2/1 hazardous area IO systems.

· Wonderware Intouch SCADA

EC & I Project Engineer. (January 2000 To October 2000 )

ASC Materials Handling Systems Ltd.

Project : Europort Grain Terminal - Gdansk Poland

ASC were the principal contractor for this project.

Working as part of a multidiscipline project team I was responsible for the front end design and cost study for the project 15KV / 0.4KV Power Distribution System and the PLC / SCADA Control Systems for the Grain loading / Offloading and Storage Materials handling Facility. Involved travel to Poland to liase with the client to establish user requirements and the potential sub-contractors who would tender for the detail design, supply and installation contracts. (Project suspended).

EC & I Project Engineer. (July 1997 To January 2000 )

Cussons International Ltd.

Project : Food Manufacturing Plant Fire Replacement Project - Schimitari Greece

Working as part of a design team with Mechanical / Process Engineers and Software Engineers I was responsible for EC&I specification, design, procurement, inspection and on site commissioning for the plant electrical systems and distributed control system.

The distributed control system architecture utilized Rockwell Automation PLC5 and SLC5 systems and Intelligent Motor Control Centers.

During the commissioning phase I was responsible for managing and providing technical assistance to the Site Installation contractor, co-ordination of multiple vendor commissioning teams, commissioning of Electrical and Instrumentation equipment, configuration of Motor Managers and Variable Speed drives and liaising with Software Engineers during the testing and de-bugging process of the Rockwell Automation RS Logix and RS View PLC/SCADA applications.

The plant consisted of Margarine Production Process Lines, Margarine Packaging Lines , PET Bottle Manufacturing / Handling Lines, Olive Oil Bottle Filling Systems and Palletizing Systems.

Project : Minerva Olive Oil Refinery - Schimitari Greece

Responsible for providing technical support to the Site based E&I and Process Engineers which involved clarification/rectification of existing design packages supplied by various design sub contract organizations.

Provision of new additional design packages, and specification and procurement and inspection of the associated equipment.

Involved in Hazop Studies relevant to the Refinery Hydrogenation Plant

(Hazardous Area Classification Zone 1 Group IIC T1) and responsible for the production of the associated certification index and upgrade of the control system to provide a higher integrity system for Emergency Shutdown purposes.

C & I Lead Engineer. (September 1991 - October 1996 )

Working as part of a design team on various projects my duties were to co-ordinate the development of user requirement, functional design specification, design and testing of Fire & Gas / ESD Control systems for various projects utilizing the following equipment and associated software packages:-

Triconex High Integrity (TMR) Multi Chassis PLC equipment

Hima Sella Planar F- System (Solid State ESD system)

Wormald Conventional and Addressable Fire Detection Equipment

Dual PLC Systems

Projects were implemented for the following clients:-
