Oct 83-Feb 84 North Sea Sun Oil, - Balmoral Field Development Contractor Fabrication Controller
Prefabrication of 400 tons of structural steel for a sub sea Drilling and Production Template and the fabrication of 'Double Bottom Units' (each 80 tons) for the construction of a 'Semi-Submersible Drilling' vessel. Ensuring specification requirements achieved and procedures implemented. Lead and direct QC personnel in accordance with document requirements. Trouble shoot in case of technical conflict arising out of disputed quality during performance of the work. Establish and maintain document control system. Final acceptance of certification packages.
July-Sept 83 Esso (Norway) - Odin Field 20" Gas Pipeline to Frigg Senior Pipeline Inspector
Qualification of Hyperbaric Welding Procedures and Welders to API 1104 at Comex Ltd in Marseilles, nde and mechanical testing. Controlled all free issue material ensuring traceability and maintenance of records for certification. Supervised examination, interview and selection of Diver Inspectors and Diver NDT technicians at Comex/Aberdeen. Offshore installation of pipeline spools, carrying out four 'Hyperbaric Tie-In' welds. Monitored post jacket installation and R.O.V inspection of the 'Odin' platform and sub sea 20" gas export pipeline and riser from Comex Vessel 'Seabex One'. Responsible for adherance to quality schedule and interface with certifying authority.
May-June 83 British Petroleum - South East Forties Development Senior Fabrication Inspector
For the proposed fabrication of 60" piling and 4.5" oilrig quality (ORQ) mooring chain for a sub sea piled mooring system and floating production platform. Also review of possible load-out yards for the work. Project was cancelled due to govt petroleum revenue tax increase.

Responsible to both the Construction Manager and Engineering Manager for all quality matters, for the overall inspection and surveillance at the pipemills,piping and structural fabricators,painting and coating applicators premises and at vendors supplying valves,fittings,pipebends,mechanical connectors,fasteners etc.Structural & Piping fabrication inspection and acceptance criteria to ANSI 31.3b,ASME IX,BS 4515,API 1104 and AWS D1.1 as appropriate.
Recruitment and supervision of onshore and offshore inspectors. (Pipelay barges LB27, LB28, M30, BR323).
Review and approve vendors/contractors quality system procedures and quality plans and ensure compliance with technical specifications, approved procedures and drawings.
Compile 'As-Built' documentation and certification for submission to Lloyds, ABS and Dept. of Energy (P/L Inspectorate ). Generally assist as required during front end engineering phase.

Line pipe and riser pipe coating. Fabrication of tie-in spools, retrofit and pre-installed risers, associated load bearing anchor and guide clamps and installation aids. Pipeline flooding, pigging, hydrostatic testing, testing of Plessey leak detection pig , leak detection,swabbing and precommissioning.
Manufacture of seamed and seamless line pipe, valves, isolating joints, swivel and misalignment flanges, Cameron connectors, 4.5" ORQ, chain.
Monitored Vickers development testing of underwater explosive welding of 16" flange/ X65 pipe. Fabrication of both steel and concrete structures for p/line protection.
Offshore/inshore rock dumping and subsequent R.O.V inspection.
Manufacture of 240 ton concrete dome for protection of connecting subsea 30" export pipelines, 500 No precast concrete pipeline protection units, and 60 No.G.R.C. units.
Fabrication of jacket-strengthening 50 ton strong-backs + structural clamps for both Piper & Claymore Platforms. Onshore construction and fitting out of new lightweight facility modules in Sweden. Offshore hook-up on Piper 'A'.
Refurbishment of Level 3 accommodation on Piper 'A' platform.
Supervision of construction of 150,000 ton tanker loading jetty , and install "Single Pile Moorings" tanker loading / deballasting 36"/48" pipelines and associated beach infrastructure.
Company Field Representative / Supervisor for the precommissioning of the 137 mile long subsea "Piper" oil pipeline from Piper'A' to Flotta which also included the setting-up,testing and deployment of a leak detection system.
