CV

I have considerable experience as a financial journalist and in writing financial marketing communications for leading financial institutions and top law firms. I have worked in investment banking, asset management and stock broking and have extensive knowledge of investment management, bond, equity, commodity and property markets. I am the author of a book on derivatives published by the Financial Times.

My understanding of these markets is has been acquired writing for and editing some of the best-known financial publications including The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Banker and The Economist. I have edited Global Investor and the International Financing Review (IFR), Global Investment Management and Euromoney’s Global Investor.

As editorial director of Fleet Street Publications I was responsible for the stable of financial newsletters produced by the UK’s largest financial newsletter publisher. My job ranged from improving the quality of the editorial output to pricing, production and marketing.

At Granville Baird, as Research Editor, I was employed to improve the research output of the financial analysts by making it more readable and accessible and to improve the physical production of their output. This involved a complete overhaul of the production process and training of the analysts to improve their writing skills. This led to Granville Baird winning the Reuter’s award for the most improved research product.

As Economics Editor at the World Gold Council I was responsible for the commissioning, editing and production of academic research for a global audience of central bankers, finance ministries, financial institutions academics and the press. I was also editor of Gold Magazine that was well received by a readership that ranged from the mines to the catwalk reflecting gold’s multiple faces.

I have excellent communications and presentational skills - I worked as reporter for the BBC TV’s Money Programme and the positions I have held have required an ability to communicate clearly, concisely and on deadline.

I take a pride in the clarity of my writing and my ability to demystify concepts that might at first appear complex. This was the idea behind my first book The New Investors Toolbox published by the Financial Times, which is an easy to understand introduction to financial derivatives and other financial market innovations.
