As a former military mechanic with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (R.E.M.E) I have a sound and technical knowledge regarding the inspection, maintenance and repair of military vehicles, tracked vehicles in particular. Combined with the management and organisational skills that I have developed over the last 12 years both within the military and from setting up and running my own business.

As one of the most experienced tradesmen on the site my role within the workshop varies from instructing repair techniques to maintaining as safe working environment and troubleshooting more demanding equipment faults.

Self employed (Al's ice cream) January 2005 to February 2007

· Environmental control systems - installation, service and repair of both externally driven mechanical refrigeration compressors and hermetic electrical units.

· Vehicle fabrication - Construction, servicing and maintenance of Ice cream vans.

· Business management - Stock control, book keeping and ensuring that the business complies with all health and safety and environmental health legislation.

Set up and run the business over a two year period building it from scratch into a profitable small concern and selling for profit.

Parts supply company ( John Rickard Autos) January 2002 - December 2004

· Technical advice - providing advice for customers on the options available for the service equipment and specialist tools available for a wide range of non commercial vehicles.

· Electronic stock control - Receiving stock from suppliers and inputting it on to the system whilst ensuring that fast moving stock was always available.

As a small but very busy company with only 5 staff members working as a team to build the company over three years to double the customer base and increase the staff to 12, with each member of staff being able to interchange with one another taking on duties as varied as deliveries, sales and stock control.

British army (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)

December 1995 - June 2001

· Challenger MBT - service, recovery and repair of running gear and main assemblies.

· CVR (T) - Inspection, service, recovery and repair of every aspect of this tracked vehicle including the ability to strip and rebuild TN15 epicyclic gearbox. Also a member of the dieselisation team tasked with converting the J60 petrol driven vehicle to the Cummins diesel.

· L/Rover - inspection, service, recovery and repair of every aspect of the vehicle.

· 430 series of vehicles, Leyland daf, CVR (T) Striker and various other vehicles and equipment.

As a junior NCO (non commissioned officer) within the R.E.M.E my role was varied and demanding ranging from maintenance within a large industrial type workshop to recovery of vehicles from mine fields in the former Yugoslavia. Also as an NCO I would be responsible for a team of men to undertake the above tasks.
