An out going and friendly individual with a friendly demeanour to match. Caring and considerate towards others with an underlying fundamental respect for all people I meet in life. Charismatic and gregarious in nature, an easy person to get along with and have no issues with communication or interaction with friends or strangers. Generally speaking an excellent team worker though there are times I do work best on my own, however this is dependant on the working subject matter. An individual who has no issues with forthright communications and I have no issues with speaking the truth and confronting work related issues to ensure the desired outcome is achieved.

Personality overview:

An out going and friendly individual with a friendly demeanour to match. Caring and considerate towards others with an underlying fundamental respect for all people I meet in life. Charismatic and gregarious in nature, an easy person to get along with and have no issues with communication or interaction with friends or strangers. Generally speaking an excellent team worker though there are times I do work best on my own, however this is dependant on the working subject matter. An individual who has no issues with forthright communications and I have no issues with speaking the truth and confronting work related issues to ensure the desired outcome is achieved.

A strong and committed individual with a high level of intelligence and unrivalled problem solving abilities, both lateral and logical. A high degree of ethics and very much a principle person in life where I will generally not bow to un-necessary outside pressures, leaving an excellent grounded person with strong morals and principles. Very few inhibitions in life and this coupled with the fact that I have absolutely no prejudice at all towards any man or woman, makes me a fair, reasonable and respectful person to all I encounter.

Current Working Status

For the past two years I have been working freelance doing contractual work for mainly the medical and embalming profession. This has comprised mainly of reverse engineering, prototyping and advanced cad work which also includes laser scanning.

This work has been linked with and aimed at helping my partner to set up a small Orthotic manufacturing business, (orthotic - corrective medical device) to accompany her existing podiatry practises that she has. This is now up and running and hence the desire to return to permanent professional employment.

Existing Professional Employment

Aug 2004 - Apr 2005 AARK Prototypes - Teeside

● Model Making for R.P. Industry preparing models for silicon Tooling

and RIM Moulding, as well as finished demonstration models.

Sep 1999 - Mar 2004 Johnson Controls - Chelmsford Essex

● Advanced engineering - conceptual design and problems solving to support new and existing

product lines, and support currently running platforms namely the C214 C-max platform and

CW170 Ford Focus including facelifts. There were also projects done for Landrover, Jaguar

and Volvo.

● Design of concept interior consoles and IP units as well as design and development of

Permanent and removable in car entertainment systems.

● Direct Involvement with design and development of the net Seat for the Ford Focus, this was

crash tested (passing with excellent results) and made ready for

production, liaising with metals and trim to ensure design continuity.

● Team liaisons representative to local prototyping firms to ensure good work flow and to

ensure concept builds were running on schedule, for the CW170 Focus platform.

● Directly involved at phase zero in the styling and design of the Ford Focus RS sports seat.

Excellent awareness and knowledge base concerning trim design and manufacture, metals

and associated production problems, foams and comfort issues as well as extensive general

engineering knowledge associated with design and development of interior seating systems.

● Trainer for the Freeform Modelling System, training staff out in Burscheid (Germany) and at

Chelmsford. I was the primary user of this system as the business units failed to see the

true advantage of this system, specifically in the design of ergonomic related design namely

foams and interface systems.

● Ford Focus Rear Seat development engineer for two years, taking the latest Ford Focus

seats and engineering from concept up to full production, I was personally responsible for

headrest and armrest specification and design. There were as usual heavy cost and time

restrictions that had to be adhered to at all times. Fully trained and concise knowledge of all

seating specifications and testing procedures, was required.

Sep 1997 - Sep 1999 Magneti Marelli - Cannock Staffordshire

● Design Engineer for front, rear and interior automotive lighting, Using Cadds 5 surfacing my

principle duties were designing components for lighting unit designs and liaising with

suppliers, OEMS and customers to ensure accurate part production and similarly ensuring

projects ran to schedule.

● Design engineer responsible for designing and developing the Rover 800 load levelling system,

from concept through to homologation and up to full production. Line support engineer at

Rover to ensure there were no issues on the assembly lines.

● Shop floor support engineer to assist the cell engineers in the setting up of new production

cells on newly developed products.

● Acting Design services manager controlling design release and drawing issuing to relevant

departments, this was only a temporary role for 6 months, whilst a new manager was

appointed.

Knowledge Base

Trained in: ● DFM ● DFA ● DFMEA ● PFMEA ● VA/VE ● GD & T● Mistake-proofing ● Concept Design ● Advanced Conceptual problem solving ● Design Evaluation using Pugh methodology ● Project Management

Familiar with: ● J.I.T. and Kiazan Methodologies ● lean Manufacture and how it impacts on designs.

Science knowledge

Physics: materials and applications, stresses and strain as well as an excellent understanding of dynamic loading. Good grasp on fluids and their behavioural patterns, similarly a sound understanding of aerodynamics and other fluid related principles. Electronics knowledge is somewhat limited. Excellent understanding of forces and motion and all related Newtonian physics.

Biology: Good solid all-round understanding of the human body, its abilities, limits and capabilities. A sound understanding of human structure function and general physiology. Excellent understanding of ergonomics and other user interface issues. Good knowledge structure to fixing and constructing remedies to ergonomic issues.

Chemistry: Good all around knowledge of materials, and their behavioural habits. Sound understanding of metals and plastics and their suited applications. General all around knowledge of coatings and their appropriate uses. Good understanding of chemical structure and different applications of.

Manufacture and engineering

Plastics: Strong knowledge in moulding types, costs of tooling, limits on tooling & design, types of plastics and how they can be treated and used as well as their limits and when they shouldn't be used.

Metals: Excellent grasp on types of metals and their suited application. Machining methods and associated times and costs.

Advanced Materials: Firm understanding of composites, their capabilities and their intended uses. Aware from experience the problems from handling and manufacture of composite materials.

Assembly: From experience I have gained a sound understanding of cell design and layout to ensure good assembly times through to an excellent understanding of what it take to make strip and repair items from many years hands on experience, and as a result what not to design.

Safety: I class myself as overcautious as many would agree and believe safety to be the first most important factor when doing anything from design to taking something apart. An excellent understanding of safety related issue from ergonomics to construction.

Construction: Good knowledge in construction techniques and types of design assemblies and more aptly how they are best placed and used.

Machining: Primarily gained from hands on experience I have a firm understanding of machining costs and times and how to design around them accordingly.

Processes: Broad knowledge of processes and how they should be introduced into the design process as well as when to avoid doing them.

Cost: Full and broad knowledge of most design costs and the consequences of changes later down the road. Linked with the other manufacture knowledge I have, means estimating and quoting for jobs and designs is accurate…within reason.

Cad: An intricate awareness of how CAD does and doesn't have its place in design with extensive CAD experience.
