Project Control; Planning and Management

I am an experienced project planner having worked in power, water and chemical industries. I have a track record of successful management and delivery of very large construction, shutdown, maintenance and emergency projects. I can guide and work with a project team through start-up, construction and installation, and deal with emergent work, recovery strategies, cost control, commissioning and handover.

I am seeking a new (non-nuclear) contract role from December 2007, preferably in continental Europe.

Ability:

I am a Project Planner using Primavera (P3, P3e and P5) and Earned Value Management.

I am confident working for senior management and directors to report project outlook and assist with strategic proposals for project delivery.

I have developed skills in project planning and control in recent years. I have a sound basis of experience to draw from having spent my career in project engineering and management of large scale process plant.

I have worked in the UK, Republic of Ireland and Belgium.

Scope of Work

From

Ineos Phenol, Antwerp, Belgium

Shutdown Project Planner

Starting in the first week of shutdown I familiarised myself quickly with a major revamp of a Distillation Plant designed to increase production by half. My role was to guide the project team and supervisors through an extensive work-scope including heavy column and vessel lifts, pipe installation and testing.

Sept 2007

Enpure, Birmingham, UK

Lead Project Planner

I took a lead role in a number of project teams for design, construction and installation of water treatment works and plant throughout the UK and Ireland. Typical of the sort of challenge I faced was co-ordination of parties at a new 40 acre construction site in the Republic of Ireland to ensure green-field to commissioned plant within only 2 years, in order to comply urgently with European directives.

Dec 2006

Jacobs Babtie

Project Controls Planner

I worked with a team designing new builds and processes for a major decommissioning project. I researched and built up detail plans; communicated with all stakeholders; provided detail project progress reports; and had a significant role in site critical path analysis, risk strategy and many other project duties.

April 2006

British Energy

Project Manager

I led a programme for recovery of 4 nuclear reactors at 2 of the UK's 8 power stations that were shutdown indefinitely on discovery of a fault. I led a project team of 5 engineers and 2 planners, and group of up to 50 contractors at site, connecting with Station and Head Office interfaces, reporting at company director level, to devise and deliver programme for 24 hour plant recovery and return to service ahead of schedule. I had control of mechanical, instrument and chemistry process teams.

August2005

British Energy

Project Engineer; inspection, commissioning and supervision.

Project team lead controlling works through project phases to implement inspections and instrument installation on reactor pressure-boundary plant. Emergent works identified and controlled successfully within plan.

Lead project engineer for varied plant replacement and improvement works on Station. Experience gained on Fuel Route, high-pressure steam and a range of mechanical and control plant.

Lead engineer for pipework NDT project co-ordinating weld contractor, NDT team, scaffolding, lagging and planning services to deliver statutory inspection requirements and control emergent works to an intensive programme.

Lead project engineer for CO 2 plant project for installation and commissioning of new high-pressure process plant. This complex project had started but stalled due to technical and contractual issues. I devised new contracts and further plant improvements. I was pleased to hand over plant for operation that has performed without a hitch.

Systems Engineer

I was Systems Engineer providing technical support and managing plant maintenance. I was responsible for heavy industrial plant including boilers and steam distribution, compressed air, water treatment and chemical storage, services, and the major seawater cooling systems for turbine and reactor cooling. I ensured compliance with nuclear and regulatory requirements. I anticipated plant reliability issues and took corrective actions. I managed plant upkeep within budget and with available resources. I let maintenance contracts and controlled site work. I identified and undertook major refurbishment work on seawater systems in time to avert significant failure and loss of cooling that would have affected electricity generation. I identified and resolved challenges specific to the cooling water process - debris removal, silt removal and fouling. I substituted improved equipment and materials suitable for aggressive service conditions.
