2003 - 2007

Senior mechanical design / project engineer

  • Managed projects to refurbish existing production equipment. Produced drawings of replacement components / upgrades, worked with suppliers and internal departments to successfully achieve project targets.
  • Extensive use of Solidworks for the design & detailing of new special projects machinery.
  • Responsible for the implementation of a new semi automatic production line, including design and detail of all equipment on the line, installation planning and progress reporting to the company directors.
  • Produced concept images of new ideas for presentation to the company chairman.
  • Designed and implemented automated robotic handling cells to increase efficiency of the company's heat treatment facilities.
  • Designed a new dual action hydraulic forging press. Integration of this machine reduced manual handling, and produced forgings of a quality that subsequent machining operations were removed completely.
  • Improved consistency whilst increasing the speed of chamfer cutting process by developing two new flame cutting machines.
  • Developed a welding cell to facilitate product orientation during manual welding, this reduced the process time, improved weld penetration and removed health and safety concerns.

1st June 2001 - 2003

Production engineer

  • Created manufacturing routes and nomenclatures on the companies manufacturing / mrp system.
  • Designed and detailed new products and components using AutoCAD 2000 and Solidworks.
  • Instigated and managed the change from paper documents to electronic storage, this successfully enabled access to the manufacturing drawings and documents from the shop floor at any time.
  • Drafted proposal and successfully managed the move from AutoCAD to Solidworks, specified updated workstations and training for the CAD department.
  • Visited customers to discuss special product requirements, produced and submitted drawings for approval.
  • Defined and produced procedures and work instructions for integration into the company quality manual.
