CAREER

Survey Systems (August 1993 - September 1995)

Joined from University and worked as head of a topographic survey team on a wide range of jobs including long term projects for Shell and HSBC Bank, as well as a four week spell in Belfast establishing a photo control network for a large highway project.

Malcolm Hughes Construction Personnel (June 1996 - July 1998)

Working as a site survey engineer on a contract basis at various construction sites throughout the North West including BAe and McDonald's. Also worked on 2 long term contracts as detailed below:

- Environment Agency (June 1996 - October 1996)

Undertaking surveys and drawing production of various watercourses around the region.

- Bechtel Water Technology (July 1997 - March 1998)

Office based role liaising with the external surveying contractors and ensuring the newly established QA system was maintained correctly.

Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (July 1998 - August 2005)

Joined as lead surveyor on a contract basis and developed the role into managing the survey department's day to day activities, alongside undertaking the surveying, processing and final drawing delivery of projects. Worked on projects ranging from urban regeneration to major bypass surveys, and internal/elevational surveys to boundary disputes. Introduced the use of GPS and new survey specification guidelines into the department as well as updating the processes used for monitoring workflow and finished product.

Atkins (August 2005 - present)

Joined on a contract basis and moved to staff in April 2006. Worked on major projects including Highways Agency Area 10 contract, Environment Agency SFRM contracts and English Partnerships framework contracts, both in topographic detailing and establishing GPS control networks. Also have experience of working in urban highway and rail environments. Have responsibility for Business Development in the survey department and mentoring junior members of staff in order to aid their development.

EXPERIENCE

Have wide experience of total station technology, particularly Leica, including reflectorless and robotic instruments used for both detailing and setting out, and of GPS technology, both Leica and Trimble, including establishing control on site and subsequent post-processing.

Have experience of MX software for processing survey data and am fully competent with LSS software. Wide experience in using AutoCad for producing final drawings as well as floorplans and elevation drawings.

Experienced at working on major highways projects including all aspects of topographic surveying site work, planning of works, Health & Safety requirements and Risk Assessments, and traffic management issues.

Produced survey estimates and work programmes for Stockport MBC and continue to do so for Atkins.

Experienced in man-management of both senior and junior members of staff.

Regularly meet and liaise with new clients and colleagues to develop good working relationships.
