PLANNING/SAFETY

  • Successfully planned and managed from conception to production the only production line of its kind in the country to produce an innovative product that demand exceeded production putting the company ahead of its competitors in the Timber industry.
  • Responsible for the planning, organising, sourcing and installation of a fully automated packaging line reducing costs and manpower while increasing yield.
  • Planned the installation of a £15 million production unit, from writing equipment specification through to systematic safe installation.
  • Part of the Management team involved in the planning of a £200 million project to install the first fully computerised mineral extraction machinery in a U.K deep coal mine.
  • Identified safety concerns to design and enforce a lockout safety system of work to ensure zero accidents and minimise downtime.
  • Member of the Safety panel responsible for all accident investigation to prevent reoccurrence.

BUSINESS IMPROVEMENTS/PRODUCTION COST SAVINGS

  • Implemented a management software programme reducing the capital cost of spares held on stock by £200k.
  • Designed and installed a steam injection system that raised Batch temperature prior to furnace melting reducing energy costs by £60k pa.
  • Successfully increased the yield of a poor performing line by 20% by adapting an analytical approach.Manufacturer subsequently adopted my designs.
  • Compiled and administered a Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) scheme that reduced downtime and reduced capital investment in new machinery.

LEADERSHIP/TEAM BUILDING

  • Faced with the challenge of major furnace repairs travelled to similar installation in Spain creating first hand knowledge and ability to lead a team in similar effective repairs.
  • Part of a Management team that planned and successfully initiated a European record for production in a coal mine.
  • Fully trained programme leader in Analytical Trouble Shooting successfully training the workforce to analyse and solve ongoing problems.
  • A Section Commander with the Territorial Army (TA) responsible and leading men in wartime training exercises in Gibralter during the Falklands conflict.
  • Established and implemented through rigid training, emergency procedures to deal with major incidents on a top tier COMAH site involving high pressure natural gas and Propane gas.

COMMUNICATION

  • As part of a six man international team contributed to the design of a global PPM scheme across 26 factories worldwide.
  • Identified the need to implement a separate scheme of maintenance for Critical equipment to allow full consultation with supervisors and operators to prevent process errors.
  • Part of a Management appraisal committee that identified strengths and training needs of line supervisors.
  • Able to collate information and reports to give clear PowerPoint presentations at senior management meetings.
  • Headed up meetings with suppliers to achieve excellent customer relationships and secure favourable terms and conditions for the company.
