Appointed by the CEO to create a Product Design Centre in Aylesbury for the development of innovative products and significantly improve the quality of existing products.

· Recruited 25 engineers within UK and China to establish a design development capability.

· Implemented a Global NPD Process within the company.

· Introduced 158 new products on time with +33% NSV over the 3 years.

· Reduced the product returns by 80% (15% down to 3%).

· Created and initiated an Environmental Product Strategy for a new market sector.

· Moved products from UK manufacturing to Europe and the Far East.

· Implemented product compliance with all European Directives including WEEE and RoHS.

ENDEVA 2002 - 2003

A provider of service and fulfilment for domestic appliances 3500 emps, £175m t/o.

Invited by the MD to redirect and create a new range of products for the FLYMO, HUSQVARNA and PARTNER brands.

· Heading up a department of 40 staff I reviewed the business and developed a product strategy to enable the brands to become leader in their sectors within three years.

· Introduced a structured Product Introduction Control process which encouraged multi-disciplinary teamwork resulting in a halving of introduction times within two years.

· Designed and implemented a budget control system to manage the £2.75m. operations and £5.5m capital budgets which eliminated overspends and allowed production cost reductions of 4% per year.

· Initiated and led over 100 product launches, including 10 completely new concepts which rapidly became brand leaders in their categories.

· As Environmental Co-ordinator successfully obtained accreditation for ISO 14002.

BLACK & DECKER 1982 - 1991 Global manufacturer of power tools 1,000 emps £200m t/o

Design/Development Controller

Reporting to the R&D Director, to design and develop a range of power tools for the global market with a team of 30 staff and a £1.7m budget.

· Led multi-disciplinary teams drawn from various departments to work on projects from conception through to manufacture.

· Recruited, led and motivated professional design engineers developing products for the Indoor, Outdoor and Kitchen markets.

· Invented the new format Steam Wallpaper Stripper, won £800k. from the US main board and transferred the technology for manufacture in Mexico.

· Designed and managed the launches of a wide variety of successful products including the brand leading Hot Air Paint Stripper.
