EMPLOYMENT

2007- Software/Systems Engineer BIL Solutions Ltd, Sellafield (part of Project Services, British Nuclear Group)

I am currently working on contract with BIL Solutions as a Special Instruments Software/Systems Engineer. The role is to support customer modifications to Special Instruments and Programmable Electronic Systems within the Sellafield MOX Plant (SMP). I provide planning (including scheduling and resourcing), system engineering, requirements, design, code, test and support to commissioning.

I modify software for automated equipment within a Nuclear Reprocessing Plant. Many of the instruments are safety related and require documentation and configuration control to meet the requirements of IEC61508 (EG90). I design/maintain software to the Sellafield Site Procedures under PVCS configuration control.

The software tools I use for modification work are:

ˇ ADA (GNAT and PowerADA)

ˇ Microware OS-9

ˇ OmegaSoft Pascal

ˇ Visual Studio

The software support role requires design and maintenance of local surveillance applications and SCADA for data acquisition and system management. The role also requires the support and configuration of simulation systems that are used for validation purposes before software is released.

BIL operate a software management system under ISO9001:2000; I am currently involved in Project Services process development to consolidate Sellafield site software modification processes.

2002-2007 Integration Specialist, L-3 Marine Systems UK Ltd (formerly CAE)

I was the Integration Specialist for the Astute Project PMS Software.

As Integration Specialist I provided integration of the C&I for Astute; this includes software and hardware integration. I was software lead and provided project engineering to the Integration Facility and its resources; planning for change, test, maintenance and build. I was also part of the planning group for the software lifecycle of new projects (e.g. CVF and LPD Support).

I worked with a variety of software toolsets to design, code and test the Astute Software. I used various software tools e.g.:

ˇ ObjectADA

ˇ Rose Toolset

ˇ Visual Studio

ˇ Matlab

ˇ Visual Fortran

ˇ Microsoft Project

ˇ CM Synergy

ˇ Telelogic DOORS

In addition I provided task planning, metrics and managed the test site schedules for software and integration.

I was the point of contact for all Astute PMS Software Subcontractors and have provided extensive training, toolset and product support to Rolls-Royce, Imtech and BAE Systems.

I have extensive knowledge and experience of Software Development for Defence Projects including documentation (to MIL-STD-2167a/NES620/JSP188), configuration management, qualityand integration. The Astute PMS is a SIL2 safety related product as designated by DEF STAN 00-55/56.

1997-2002 Engineering Manager Siege(formerly Ivytech Ltd)

I was a Engineering Manager for the UK team developing project based engineering software products. I managed and developed software for numerous projects including:

ˇ Call Management Software for radio based telephony (African Telecom Network, Lagos, Nigeria)

ˇ Plant Management Software, database application for Onshore/offshore plant hire (Vital, Aberdeen/Glasgow)

ˇ Preventative Maintenance Application for automated factory units across the UK (CCW Manufacturing)

ˇ Integration Software, bringing together the management system with the National Grid cost control systems (Roosecote Power Station)

I was hands on in providing software and project engineering as well as customer interfacing. The software development was customer project focused often requiring a great deal of onsite work and training. The software projects were specified using a mixture of customer requirements and product demonstrations. Tools used included: Visual Studio, Delphi, Lotus, SQL Server

1996-1997 Research and Development Manager, Marl International

As R&D Manager I provided the line management responsibility of design and prototyping (engineering) teams. The main aspects of this role were process/project management, to maintain the BS5750 accreditation and to deploy automated systems into the production facilities. Whilst with Marl I specified and managed the deployment of automated manufacturing facilities, this included reallocation of resource and planning. I also managed the introduction of Manufacturing Resource Planning through the introduction of Sage Sovereign.

1995-1996 Systems Manager, Furness Newspapers

My role as Systems Manager at Furness Newspapers was as project engineer for the introduction of fully automated processes and techniques to the local newspaper. When I joined the company the production process was almost entirely manual.

Planning for large scale deployment of systems, resources for training, sub contractors, and 3 rd party support were key aspects of the planning.

On completion of the project I was involved in the management team as part of the streamlining process; Individual processes analysis to aid future systems planning.

I gained experience in training and providing support for end users. The role required software knowledge of multiple software, systems and C&I to replace the manual process.

1988-1994Design Engineer/Technician, Oxley Developments, Ulverston

I completed a 4-year apprenticeship with Oxley in instrumentation and design, moving from production automation through to product design. I specialised in robotic control and automated computerised machinery and was the first person to gain BTEC recognition for computer related training and experience. In 1992 I moved over into the design offices as a process engineer in ceramic component manufacture. In addition I also wrote software for the automated machinery including ladder logic for Fanuc and Siemens PLCs.
