Lead Civil Engineer for Clients (United Utilities) AMP4 Capital Delivery business area comprising a total of 22 civils staff working on Water, Wastewater, Impounding Reservoir and Service Reservoir projects.

In this role I am responsible for the identification & allocation of civil staff resources for the group ensuring design teams are adequately staffed to meet quality & programme commitments.

Ellesmere Port WwTW - Civil Engineer providing technical input to the Solution Identification & Development project phases and completion of Tender documentation. The project involved new storage facilities for imported trade wastes and modifications to the Primary and Sludge treatment processes. Project Value £2.5M

Workington WwTW Odour Control Improvements - Civil Engineer providing technical input to the Solution Identification & Development project phases and completion of Tender documentation. The project comprised a new odour control system for the Inlet Works, Primary & Sludge Treatment processes. Project value £2.0M

Grizedale Dock Impounding Reservoir - Civil Engineer responsible for completion of the Solution Identification project phase. The project addressed flow control & seepage through the reservoir embankment. Project Value £0.75M

Thorncliffe WTW - Project Engineer co-ordinating the activities of a multi-disciplinary design team ensuring completion of the technical solution and production of tender documentation. The project addressed plumbosolvency and disinfection water quality drivers at two borehole water treatment sites. Works also included modifications to existing distribution network and a new 1 km transfer main between the two borehole sites. Project Value £2.0M

Liverpool WwTW Urgent Compliance Measures - Construction Supervision role for works associated with BAFF Plenum floor refurbishment (£11M), Phase 1B Odour control (£10M) and Actiflow treatment of Backwash waters (£10M). As part of my role I also managed the Clients safe system of work procedures and facilitated the planning, co-ordination and communication between the Contractor and Clients Operations Department to ensure client/contractor programme commitments were achieved.

Glossop UPM - Project Engineer leading a multi-disciplinary team through the feasibility project delivery phase addressing pollution from storm overflows on the sewer network. This role involved technical and hydraulic design of sewer infrastructure, co-ordination of technical input from multi-disciplinary team, identification and management of risks associated with third parties. Liaison with Client, Contractor and third parties, development of health safety and environmental issues, support of value management processes, preparation of cost estimates for clients preliminary financial approval and production of design implementation documentation. Project Value : £6.5M

Babtie Group (Formerly Allott and Lomax), Manchester June 98 - Jan 02

A500 Shavington Hough Bypass - Designers Structures Representative for this £28M, 7.5 km Highways Agency design & build scheme. My principal responsibility on site was to ensure that design & quality requirements were achieved by the main contractor. Daily duties involved providing technical support, co-ordinating engineering input from regional design teams & working with the contractor to identify cost savings. The main feature of the scheme was the structural launch of the 200 metre long, 5 span London-Crewe Railway bridge (UK Record).

A63 Selby Bypass - Provided contractor with tender support for this 9.5 km Highways Agency Design and Build scheme. This involved preliminary structures design, production of Bill items and measurement of quantities in accordance with the Highways Method of Measurement.

River Lune Millennium Footbridge - Provided technical support to the main contractor for this three span cable stayed structure. This involved the analysis of raked piled foundations and design advice on the ground anchorage system.

Cherwell Footbridge - Completed the detailed design of a 3 span steel footbridge as part of the Castle Quay development at Banbury. The footbridge comprised RHS beams with timber decking supported on reinforced concrete towers and piled foundations.

Fylde Junction Lower Bridge - Responsible for the assessment of integral reinforced concrete bridge piers incorporating precast freyssinet type concrete hinges. Also responsible for the interpretation of finite element analysis data (ANSYS) in providing the final assessment solution.

Woodgate Hill Service Reservoir No.2 Circulation Improvements - Site Representative monitoring quality and programme issues on behalf of the Client. Additional duties included acting as health & safety co-ordinator for third parties working outside the control of the main contractor.

Whitehaven to Parton WwTW 3.5 Km Rising Main - responsible for route layout, production of planning and construction drawings, identification and management of third party issues, production of contract documentation including the Scope of Works and Specification

BNFL Engineering Ltd. - Structural analysis of a reinforced concrete pipebridge carrying low active effluent and the production of the Continued Operational Safety Report (COSR). Sellafield B41 - structural analysis of crane beams.

Bechtel Water Technology, Warrington April 97 - June 98

Civil Design Engineer in the wastewater business area addressing problems of discharge consent failures on wastewater treatment works. Operating within a multi-disciplinary team, my role involved outline technical design, hydraulic analysis, health and safety risk assessment, production of scope of works and drawings, cost estimate support and the production of reports/technical documentation.

AspenConsulting, Warrington Oct 1994 - March 1997

Assistant Engineer within the bridges department supporting and leading bridge inspection and bridge strength assessment programmes for Local Authority Clients, British Waterways and Railtrack. My role involved the planning and co-ordination of internal and external resources to ensure safe and accurate recording of structure condition, cost management ensuring works completed to budget and programme, structural analysis of bridges in accordance with standards and procedures and the production of technical reports.

Industrial placement - Member of the Rivington WTW design team. My role involved the production of general arrangement drawings, pipeline and flow meter chamber design, reinforced concrete design and detailing.
