PROFILE:

Currently working as a time served maintenance instrument electrician, I now wish to expand on my engineering career and attempt new challenges within the area of instrumentation and control, in which I gained a First Class Honours degree from the University of Teesside. I am looking to seek employment within company that has a variety of interests and differing environments in which to demonstrate and apply my abilities. My future goal is to gain enough experience and knowledge to become a chartered engineer.

EDUCATION:

2003 - 2006 Beng. (Hons) Instrumentation and Control Engineering at The University of Teesside, Middlesbrough.

The main components of the degree were -

Pure Control Theory - 3 term control, Modelling, Tuning, State-space techniques, Discrete controllers, Filters and Frequency response Plant Process - PLC program development, Plant modification methods, Data compression and transport

Instrumentation - Primary sensing elements, Transducers, pH measurements, Chromatography and Digital signal processing

Engineering Management/Safety Awareness - Project Management, Hazard Analysis - HAZOP and Human/Design error techniques.

1998 - 2002 Furness College, Barrow-in-Furness

Higher National Certificate(HNC) Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Ordinary National Certificate(ONC) Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

1993 - 1998 Millom Secondary School

11 GCSEs All at grade C and above

EXPERIENCE:

2006 September - Present SELLAFIELD Ltd. Sellafield

Instrument Electrician

  • Maintenance, Calibration and Testing of Pressure, Flow, Level, Temperature and Radiometric systems.
  • Maintenance of Hydrocarbon monitoring systems, Process Oxygen and Area Oxygen detection systems and experience of Hazardous Area Equipment.
  • General electrical duties, fault finding and breakdowns.

2006 July - September Costain-Petrofac Barrow-in-Furness Gas Terminal

Instrument Technician

  • Fiscal metering of Gas and Condensates including calibration of pressure, temperature, density and flow loops.
  • Fire and Gas testing of the terminal.

1998 - 2003 BNFL Sellafield POND 5 SIXEP and WIF

Instrument Electrician

  • Aiding commissioning work of the plant equipment.
  • Maintenance and use of SCADA computer systems.
  • Installation and maintenance of electrical and instrumentation plant items

Training as an apprentice instrument electrician to complete both NVQ level 2 and 3 while attending college part time to complete ONC and HNC.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Excellent knowledge of IBM compatible PCs running Microsoft Windows including the Office Suite (Project and Excel). Detailed knowledge and use of Matlab and Simulink engineering packages for Simulation, Tuning, Control and Calculation and experience of various CAD and circuit design packages.
