Advanced Product Design Engineer

Started out as design engineer working within the company's Mid-range Turbocharger Engineering team. Progressed to senior design engineer and then promoted to the company's Advanced Engineering team. Responsible for clean sheet realisation of advanced t/charging system concepts. Work focused on geometrically complex t/charger components requiring use of advanced Pro/E work methods. Responsibilities spanned entire concept development process from initial development of functional specification right through to final system testing.

Oct 2001 - July 2003 Ricardo UK Ltd Radford Semele, Leamington Spa

Mechanical Design Engineer

Worked for this consultancy's Driveline and Transmission Systems group in three key areas.

1. Driveline & Transmission Systems R&D:

· Design of Torque Vectoring Centre Differential (Prototype advanced 4WD transmission)

Responsible for all rotating / dynamic components - conceptual design; scheming; definition of product structure; material selection; component sizing; 3D CAD modelling; CAE analysis; detailing; and supervising >80 components through purchasing, manufacturing, inspection and assembly

ENGINEERING RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE (CONT)

· Lubrication Research

Responsible for development of design guidelines to address recurring transmission lubrication problems experienced and identification of steps to be taken in development of marketable lubrication system design / development capabilities - Research engineering / project engineering role

2. Off Highway Transmissions:

· Design of chain driven transfer case for tracked type military vehicle

Responsible for all rotating / dynamic components - conceptual design, material selection, sizing, 3D CAD modelling and detailing

3. Light Duty Transmissions:

· Design of adaptor housing for high performance sports vehicle

Responsible for - generation of 3D CAD models for casting work and machining detail drawings

Mar 2001 - Oct 2001 Axis EU Limited Perivale, Middlesex

Mechanical Design Engineer

Placed on a long-term assignment with Caterpillar (Desford), working for the client's Telehandler Product Group. Key projects:

· Redesign of several components for cost reduction (design, detailing, and seeing prototype parts through manufacture, inspection, installation and test)

· Redesign of engine induction system resulting in 3.5% reduction in cost, 2% improvement in engine performance

Dec 2000 - Mar 2001 Prodrive (Automotive Technology) Kenilworth, Warwickshire

Junior design / project engineer in driveline engineering and control group. Key projects:

· Concept design of hybrid vehicle transmission

· Design and detailing of components comprising active differential

· Design and detailing of suspension upright (on secondment to vehicle group)
