Experience

:

The basis of my experience over the last 35 years has centred on large, distributed systems for the automation of process plants. This has involved the application of both PLC, S and computers of varying size and complexity.

I have been involved in design of both hardware and software, which involved design of control /PLC Panels, Motor Control Centres, Variable speed drives

( DC and AC )Pneumatic, /Hydraulic systems, and HT / LT Switchgear Distribution system design internal and external lighting.

Within the scope of project management, I have been involved in conceptual design and control of the plant implementation, and commissioning, involving the control of multi disciplined work forces of all levels.

The cost and size of the projects have varied from a few thousand pounds up to 20 Million pounds; the implementation of these process plants has been world wide, covering East & Western Europe, Far & Middle East, and the USA.

In my involvement with distributed systems and PLCS, I installed my first processor in 1969, which was one of the first Two installed in the UK.I am familiar with all the major manufacturers, i.e.'

Allen Bradley ,

Siemens,

Mitsubishi,

Cegelec,

Omron, ect.

In my managerial role, as previously stated, I have been active in project management from tender preparation, to estimating, customer presentation, through final negotiation to secure the contract.

I have been involved in total business management, having responsibilities for business planning, development of order, book, and recruitment, of engineering staff, budget control, and implementation of ISO 9000.

During my role with USF I managed a team of Twenty systems Engineers consisting of PLC/SCADA software engineers, Instrument and Control engineers, and Electrical

Engineers. Within that role I was responsible for System Design, and Analysis, working closely with both sales, process engineers and production to produce both Control Philosophy, Functional Design Specifications, and Sales support, providing preliminary design information and costings for tender stage.

I have also Project Managed major projects from conceptional design to final commissioning and plant acceptance.

On joining the company I set in place both engineering and software standards, introducing IEC 1131 modular software techniques, along with documentation standards.

Since leaving USF (Edwards & Jones) I have further developed the SBR technology and implemented different techniques on other manufacturers plant.

My water Industry extends to the involvement in major projects both in the UK and Far East, as Follows.

SHELL GREEN DEWATERING PLANT (North West Water)

Complete Sludge treatment plant consisting of Twenty Two

PLCs networked and connected to Plant Wide SCADA.

HONG KONG DEWATERING PLANT UPGRADES

Complete Sludge treatment plant consisting of 6 sites with

various numbers of filter presses, sludge pumping and dosing systems.

BECKTON & CROSSNESS DEWATERING PLANT (Thames Water)

Complete Sludge treatment plant consisting of Six PLCs

Networked and connected to Plant Wide SCADA.

WESTON SUPER MARE and MINEHEAD SBC PLANTS

Complete Sludge treatment plants consisting of 16 SBC units in total, working with Wessex Water Engineers to develop a proper control strategy and develop the process and operation guidelines for these two plants.

CA / CCK DEWATERING PLANT SCHEMES

Complete Sludge treatment plant consisting of Six PLCs networked and connected to Plant Wide SCADA via Dual Fibre Optic Mod Bus network.

This system used Hot Standby PLC technology due to the critical capacity of the plant.

YORKSHIRE / WESSEX / NORTHUMBRIAN AND SOUTHERN WATER SBR PLANTS.

This technology was initially developed in the USA, but due to the nature of the operating requirements of the UK market it required major redevelopment of the software.

The SBR (sequential batch reactor) technology brings together conventional PLC software and single board Co-Processor software C+ to perform a continuous Flow

Proportional process for Multi-Tank operation. This technology was new to the UK market place, the first one being commissioned for Yorkshire Water.

The following being plants worked on is as follows,

ADWICK (Yorkshire Water)

SWINTON (Yorkshire Water)

KNOSTROP (Yorkshire Water)

HULL (Yorkshire Water)

BROWNEY (Northumbrian Water)

AVONMOUTH (Wessex Water)

BRIDPORT (Wessex Water)

EDENBRIDGE (Southern Water).

2006-SOUTHERN WATER PROJECTS.

BOULDER WTW

New Screening and Wash-water upgrades, addition of automation and general Electrical site up grade, new MCC in remote kiosk and effluent discharge control and monitoring.

NEW ALRESFORD WTW

New Screening and Wash-water upgrades, addition of automation and general Electrical site up grade, new MCC and Control room upgrade and effluent discharge and flow splitter control and monitoring.

FORD WWTW.

M&E Project engineer / Site / commissioning for new GRP liquor and sludge tank replacement roofs, this encompassed over-pumping schemes whilst roof replacement and tank repairs took place, the job entailed civil, mechanical and electrical and was over a period of 9 months due to the complications that arose with tank corrosion.

OVERSEAS PROJECTS WEST AFRICA.

M&E PROJECT DESIGN / ENGINEERING and MANAGEMENT

GHANA

Industrial wastewater treatment plant consisting of pumping, balancing tanks, Hybrid reactor, clarifier, sludge storage tanks, chemical dosing, and sludge treatment belt press, under the control of PLCs networked and connected to Plant Wide SCADA via Dual Fibre Optic network. Project management / M&E supervision was undertaken of installation and commissioning.

CAMEROON

Industrial wastewater treatment plant consisting of pumping, balancing tanks, Hybrid reactor, clarifier, sludge storage tanks, chemical dosing, and sludge treatment belt press, under the control of PLCs networked and connected to Plant Wide SCADA via Dual Fibre Optic network. Project management / M&E supervision was undertaken of installation and commissioning.

All of the above projects involved conceptual design, project management FDS, and O&M manual writing / documentation.

Other experience in the water industry extends to the following types of plant.

Pumping schemes with various types of Ram pumps.

Filter Presses.

Belt Presses.

Dosing systems.

UV Treatment systems.

Aeration systems.

Digester Systems

Centrifuge systems

Activated Sludge Plants.

2007-SEVERN TRENT WATER PROJECTS,
