2006-2007 : MSc in Advanced Chemcial Engineering , Imperial College - London. Subjects learnt: Design of control structure for chemical plant, Optimisation of heat exchanger networks, Modelling and simulation of Dynamic chemical processes, Environmental Engineering, reaction enginering, Fluid Engineering . PROJECT : Slurry- phase Desulphurisation of crude oil : the project aims at development of energy efficient and environmental friendly catalytic process .It involves synthesis of carbon supported niobium sulphide catalyst and testing it using a slurry phase reactor on crude oil and evaluate its activity for the desulphurisation reaction.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY: March 2003 to September 2006

COMPANY: Reliance Industries Limited - Jamnagar Refinery (Gujarat).

Position Held : PRODUCTION ENGINEER in Aromatics Cracker Unit.

Major Responsibilities :

· In charge of the Aromatics plant for the production of 4800 tons of paraxylene ,400 tons of benzene per day. This required thorough operational knowledge of various processes like naphtha reforming, isomerisation , Adsorption processes and extractive distillation .

· I was responsible for handling of a process team consisting of 5 panel officers, 12 plant operators and coordinating with engineers from other disciplines for daily plant jobs.

· I have done trouble shooting of process problems based on daily product analysis.

· Prepared authorised documents related to normal plant start up and shutdown.

· I was a member of a major shutdown team in September 2005 where in I was involved in the preparation and prioritisation of Jobs , preparation of hydrocarbon inventory flow diagrams , training of process operators through presentations and process simulators .

· I was also involved in the modification and reloading of isomer reactor and successfully commissioning it.

· I was responsible for handling of plant emergencies like partial power failure, instrument air failure, control valve failure, fired heaters tripping , reactor feed cut off and tripping of any electrical drive like hydrogen compressor (3.5 MW ) and pumps.

Major Projects and achievements:

1) Msc project: slurry phase desulphurisation:

It is concerned with the development of a new slurry phase process for the desulphurisation of crude oil which is conventionally carried in a fixed bed reactor. My aim is to experiment new catalyst like Niobium sulphides and carbides right from synthesis to batch reaction and characterisation using modern techniques like X-ray fluorescence, BET for surface area analysis and GC for liquid samples. Hence this project will help me to develop an energy efficient and environmental friendly process.

2) Commissioning of the Extractive Distillation Units:

In January 2006 I was responsible for the successful commissioning of the Extractive distillation Units from the DCS ( distributed control system), done in co-ordination with the Licensor UOP. From this project I learnt how to effectively work in multidisciplinary teams in order to solve any problem relate to instruments, hydrocarbon leakages or electrical drives.

3) Process trouble shooting :

I have done the troubleshooting of the overhead condenser in the Vacuum column in the Extractive distillation Unit with the help of Industrial simulators such as HTRI .I used the design case and the process data to generate simulation results which showed an increase in fouling in the overhead condenser and needed chemical cleaning.

4) Implementation of Advanced Process Control(APC):

At Reliance I was involved with Aspentech USA in implementing of APC on the DCS .I was involved in step testing , model building , selection of manipulated and control variables and fine tuning of controllers and providing necessary operational inputs where ever necessary.

Technical Skills:

• From my Msc studies I have developed skills such as Modelling of industrial systems like distillation columns and other unit operations using G-proms( modelling tool). From Advanced process Optimisation course I learnt to synthesise heat exchanger network synthesis using a tool called Gams. A specialisation in Process systems Engineering and process control helped me to develop control structures for a petrochemical plant and test it on a simulator( used matlab). Environmental engineering gave me insights into designing of various unit operations for waste water treatment and development of green processes.
• From my job experience I had solved a complex problem pertaining to the over head condenser of a distillation column which involved use of HTRI industrial simulator . I used the design case and plant data to generate reliable data to present my report to the management.

Information technology Skills:

• Proficiency in the use of Industrial software like HTRI for heat exchanger simulations , G-proms for modelling of processes, GAMS for Optimisation of heat exchanger networks and CFD for studying complex patterns of fluid flow in reactors, compressors etc.
• Well acquainted with use of MS Office . Have done a number of presentations at national level symposiums and during my careers at Reliance on power point and prepared material balance sheets on Excel.

Communication skills:

• Learnt to developed good communication skills while working in multidisciplinary teams and with the contractors to accomplish the project work.

• Have good written communication as was responsible for preparing daily plant reports
• During my university, presented technical papers at National level Symposiums.

Leadership qualities:

• At reliance I was a team player in huge project of adsorbent replacement in September 2005, was working in conjunction with Licensor(UOP) and contractors and a multidisciplinary team from Reliance .
• Lead a team of process, civil, mechanical engineers and technicians to successfully complete the shutdown jobs well with in time.

Languages:

I am fluent in verbal and written communication in English and my mother tongue. I am acquainted with Arabic as I have done my schooling in Dubai .I also have a passion to learn Dutch ,Spanish and other European Languages.
