DESIGN / MANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE
Design
The following are core skills:
AutoCAD R14 to 2006 (drawing production)
Drawing work to BS8888 (BS308)
Finglow (vessel stress calc's)
Bill of materials (BOM's)
Design for manufacture (DFM) (in a high volume environment)
Design for assembly (DFA)
Draw weld preps to codes ASME VIII Div 1 & 2, PD5500, Tema & PED.
Dimensioning & tolerancing for machining, plating & general fabrication
Geometric tolerancing.
Material selection - Carbon steels, Stainless Steels, Aluminium alloy (Extruded) & Exotics, in bar stock gauge or plate.
Composite materials - GRP, Carbon fibre, epoxy & polyester resins (Autoclave cured)
Creating the flat development of gauge or plate for bending.
Specifying surface finishes. i.e. Galvanising, nickel plating, anodising and painting.
Manufacturing processes & philosophies
Good understanding of machining and welding methods, processes & techniques:
Machining - Turning, milling, drilling, shaping, surface grinding, wire and spark errosion, laser & water jet profiling (Depending on material thickness)
Welding - MIG, TIG, Stick, spot, submerged arc (SMAW). I have a good understanding of both the friction weld and electron beam welding (EBW) procedures
The philosophies of manufacturing, of which I have participated in:-
Five lean principles - Value and value stream, flow, pull rather than push and perfection.
Tools used or have a good understanding of - SMED, Poka Yoke, JIT, 5s, Kanban, TQM (Kaizen, Atarimae Hinshitsu), 7 wastes, TPM & SPC.
Planning, ordering & control systems - MRPII & the ERP system BAAN
Teams - I can set up teams using Dr Belbin's BTRSPI and set controls with information gained using Schut's FIRO-B and the Big Five (Five Factor Model).
