ENERG Group Ltd

Dec 2004 to Sep 2006 Electronics Design Engineer

Randox Laboratories Ltd Randox Laboratories Ltd is a fast growing multinational organization focusing on high-tech healthcare technology. Randox develops and manufacture fully automatic diagnostic solutions used in over 30,000 laboratories in 130 countries around the world.

Projects Details

ˇ I manage engineering research, development and commercialization of a point of care, medical detector system with a primary function of quantifying seriousness of cardiac patients within several minutes. The project requires RF, computer control electronics and embedded circuit design in order to achieve the finished product ready for market. There is also a requirement for close communication between biochemists within Randox and project experts at the University of the West of England to realize a product with such a pioneering and unique operation.

ˇ I designed and developed a digital heater control board to control the temperature of incubator in automatic chemical analyzer EVIDENCE™ to +/-1% of a degree. The heater control board was using pulse width modulated signal to control the heaters and can be set to eight different temperatures from 31˚C to 39˚C. An eight bit I/O port was used to communicate with a PC.

ˇ A QC system was needed in the production facility, to measure and check the uniformity of Threhalose deposition on the Biochip surface. I develop a prototype system based around a Hohner surface roughness optical sensor. The Hohner sensor was fixed and the 100 cells ceramic plate moved in a measured and repeatable manner to various set positions. Two single axis IMS motion controllers with a system of handshaking were set for smooth operation of the system. An input was also available to a PC to control the movement of the system and to record the data from the Hohner sensor.

ˇ I designed and build a complete test system for Cavro stepper motor control boards.

ˇ I manage research and development of a liquid level detection system for automatic chemical analyzer to aspirate and dispense control amounts of samples. The system was based on capacitance change principle and using 555-timer, AD650 frequency to voltage converter and Atmel AT90S8535 8-bit microcontroller.

ˇ After a three months research on blood clot detection I invented a novel method of clot detection in blood or serum sample using a 100-psi press-

Personal Skills

Teamwork: Working for the last six years with different teams has greatly increased my understanding of the importance of team spirit.

Decision-making From practical project experience I have learnt that problems need to be approached logically, calmly and looked at from a variety of different angles and viewpoints. Decisions should always be justified, with implications at a holistic level considered and made at appropriate times to allow suitable actions.

Logic and planning considerable project management experience has improved my logical thinking and planning skills.

Sport I have a strong interest in exercise and keeping fit, something that I complement using cricket, where I am committed to an amateur cricket club and play matches with other local cricket clubs.
