An authorised person electrical, with managerial responsibilities presently fulfilling a shift Engineer role, providing technical expertise in support of operational plants. Previously an Engineering Team Leader with D.A.P status responsible for managing a large multi disciplined team.Experienced within the field of electrical distribution and associated systems. Time served electrician , cross trained in instrumentation and with experience in installing, commissioning and maintaining a wide variety of industrial plant equipment and systems in an industrial/ manufacturing/ nuclear environment.

CAREER BACKGROUND

2000 - PRESENT - SELLAFIELD MOX PLANT

DV Security cleared to work within a plutonium environment

AUTHORISED PERSON (ELECTRICAL) since 2000

  • Responsible for recommending SQEP to Band 3 Managers for appointment as nominated persons and to designate any specific duties.
  • Reviewing the competency of nominated persons at intervals not exceeding 36 months using the specified refresher training as necessary.
  • Providing as necessary to nominated persons guidance, clarification or information on electrical safety.
  • Auditing the quality and standard of substations and switchrooms for his area of responsibility.
  • Assisting the Senior Authorised Persons to review electrical safety matters including incidents to ensure commonality of approach across the Sellafield and Drigg nuclear licensed sites.
  • Fully understanding and able to apply resuscitation techniques.
  • Carrying out and advising on point of work checklist Risk Assessments to assess electrical hazards prior to commencing or instructing others to carry out work on any electrical system.
  • Producing, contributing to and complying with work safety plans (incorporating risk assessment) to assess electrical hazards prior to commencing or instructing others to carry out work on any electrical systems.

SYSTEM ENGINEER - PG8

  • Providing professional and technical expertise in support of operational plants, and providing a maintenance service to the plant whilst co-ordinating relevant team members.
  • Manage the engineering priorities for all emergent work
  • Represents engineering at the daily operational focus meeting to ensure engineering priorities are set, achievable and delivered
  • Manage the engineering logs to ensure all repeating breakdowns have long term engineering strategies in place with the facility engineering managers.
  • Interface with projects to ensure hand over to plant is delivered in accordance with the project scope and the gap analysis is managed and delivered, including documentation and training for the shift teams

ASSISTANT AREA PLANT ENGINEER - PG7F

  • Plan, co-ordinate and manage the effective delivery of engineering tasks as P.O.W
  • Provide engineering and technical support/ advice within and at times beyond my area of responsibility
  • Identify opportunities and drive improvements in engineering standards and plant availability.
  • Ensure that engineering standards are defined and maintained.
  • Implement and contributes to safety initiatives
  • Interview and select craft team members for the company from external and internal recruitment pools.

2001 - 2004

ENGINERING TEAM LEADER - PG7F

  • Responsible for 12 craft team members both E&I and Mechanical. Supported the manufacturing team, allocated resources, prioritised and conducted tasks to time and budget.
  • Attended both engineering and manufacturing team meetings on a daily basis playing a primary role in the communication of progress and relevant issues.
  • Engineering D.A.P for both Areas 400 and 500 on SMP.

2000 - 2001

ASSISTANT AREA PLANT ENGINEER - SMP ROD WORKS ORDER

  • Provide engineering and technical support/ advice within and at times beyond my area of responsibility
  • Ensure that engineering standards are defined and maintained.

Implement and contributes to safety initiatives.

  • Set up a spares team, dealing with asset care and obscelescence issues.
  • Acted as a point of contact and system expert for export facility engineering issues.
  • Arranged Safe systems of work and access for contracted labour.

1999 - 2000

LOW LEVEL WASTE MANAGEMENT - WAMAC AND DRIGG DEPOSITRY

E&I Chargehand

Responsible for the supervision of 9 E&I craftsmen and 3 apprentices.

Prioritised the daily workload and allocating resources.

Ensuring statutory maintenance delivered to designated timescales.

Organised training and delivered to the workforce.

1992 - 1999

THORP ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS

  • Commissioned, maintained and repaired a wide range of single phase and 3 phase distribution equipment up to and including 3.3kV (Allen West, Twyver, GEC etc).
  • Planned and implemented partial and total power failures as part of a Systems Performance Demonstration (SDP) to prove reliability of back-up facilities for NII Site Licence approval.
  • Sound Knowledge of Permit to Work and lock off box procedures.
  • Permit Office experience both on plant and management centre work e.g. isolations and energisations etc.
  • Tested a wide range of thermal and electronic overload units to manufacturers' specifications (including Allen West and Sprecher and Schu).
  • Cross trained in instrumentation and achieved NVQ Level 3 certificate.
  • Inspected and tested portable appliances using Seaward PAT 2000i unit.

1985 - 1992

AMEC

JAMES SCOTT

(Formally Matthew Hall Mechanical and Electrical Engineers)

  • Carried out installation, commissioning, maintenance and repairs as part of major construction projects in the nuclear/industrial environment including process/operations sites - Vitrification plants, Encapsulation Plants, Waste Handling Plants, repository sites, sea tanks, office and administration building, hostels, security lodges and rail depots.
  • Worked a double days shift system and night shift.
  • Installed, maintained and repaired power circuits, lighting systems (including Hi-Bay, street and emergency lighting).
  • Worked on all SWA cables, MICC cables, singles, multi-cores, security systems and fire alarms.
  • Undertook a range of metal work such as tray work and racking, installing trunking systems, conduit, unistrut systems, earthing and lighting conductors.

1985 - 1990

APPRENTICE ELECTRICIAN (CITB)

  • Served a four year Apprenticeship, studying at Carlisle Technical College for 3 years and at Workington College for 1 year.
  • Achieved apprentice of the year for Matthew Hall.
