Production engineer 1999 - Present
Working as part of a team to plan process routes for manufactured parts and produce process documentation. Write CNC programs for Fanuc, Siemens and Okuma controllers using CADCAM. Jig and fixture design using CAD or Solid modeller.
Managed a project on turning case hardened parts, hard turning is now a replacement for bore and O/D grinding due to the reduced setup and cycle times.
Reduced carbide cutting tool spend by over 15%, reducing stock levels.
Worked in a team to introduce remote CNC program calling. Leading to more flexible machine loading, reduced set up times and giving stricter program control.
Led project of bringing sub contract work back in house by using new machines and technologies. To date this has brought over £80000 pa of work back into the company and has resulted in shorter lead times of parts.
Organised the introduction of a new machine into the company, learned how to set, operate and program the machine. Designed and manufactured general purpose tooling to allow the machine to be used. Wrote a training plan and trained two operators how to set and run machine.
Part of an EU project (X-Gear) into the development of new materials and gear systems for gear trains and mechanical transmissions.
Organised tooling for machines in a factory in China.
