Summary of Experience

I have a broad Engineering background with over 25 years of extensive experience in heavy and light Engineering.

During the past 12 years I have worked in the Oil and Gas Industry on products such as: capital drilling, H4 connectors, test stumps, mandrels, ball joints, marine drilling risers, telescopic joints, diverter systems to completion/intervention, packers, straddles, valves, wire line equipment with all associated running/pulling equipment. My most recent work projects are: surface/sub sea wellheads, tubing hangers, Xmas Tree Systems (horizontal, conventional and tree on mudline), lower riser package, protection structures and riser systems with all their associated running equipment.

My responsibilities also include the overseeing and acceptance of the design & development, manufacturing and testing of the foregoing products and projects and thereafter their commissioning to the customer's satisfaction.

Project Engineer

May. 2002- March. 2007. Vetco Gray UK limited, Montrose

Project Engineer

Provide engineering support to customer for Vetco Product Line refurbishments. The role includes but is not limited to:

  • Conceptual to final approval Design/ Survey /Disposition.
  • Analytical analysis.
  • Liaise with manufacture (Vetco and third party Sub Contractors); ensuring product line meets industry standards.
  • Coordinate refurbishment through 3 rd party. Providing Workscope/Survey/Disposition to industry standards.
  • Create/Approve, Assembly & Test procedures, FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), EFAT (Extended Factory Acceptance Test), SIT (Site Integration Test) & dummy Wet Test for ROV/XT interface.
  • Support assembly through, re-build & testing.
  • Witness testing, analysing test results for release or rework with creative solutions, FAT, EFAT, SIT & dummy Wet Test for ROV/XT interface.
  • Interface Vetco equipment to hydraulic control system.
  • Report to customer with recommendations.
  • Create/approve/support, rig survey for interface with subsea equipment
  • Support Subsea Operations Onshore and Offshore.
  • Close out and learning.

Typical Project

Talisman, Scapa E7, situated in North Sea, lying approximately 450 ft deep. The field is on a template with 24 XTs. The well "E7" had not flowed for numerous yrs, however it is now financially viable to pull & sidetrack. My scope was to co-ordinate the refurbishment of all Vetco subea equipment for workover and completion. This was undertaken in 2 stages as below:

Stage 1

Refurbish tree cap/ XT pulling equipment, reconfiguring hydraulic controls to suit subsea XT. Pull Tree Cap, pull XT and cap well. XT and tree cap to be shipped to Vetco for Survey.

Stage 2

Refurbish the equipment to industry standards for drilling programme and subsea equipment, interfacing lower Riser package/EDP to XT hydraulic controls, FAT, EFAT, SIT. Create rig survey for equipment interface. Provide onshore and offshore support throughout the installation and commissioning.

Design Engineer

Make design studies and proposals on specific engineering job assignments and supervise one or several assigned draughters. Act as a consultant for prototype manufacture, design and monitor prototype test programmes of proposed and accepted designs. Create/approve engineering reports on operating procedures and technical reports on any new knowledge or methods developed. Carry out feasibility studies and failure analysis.
