CAREER HISTORY

10 Oct 2006 to Present Company Accountant

North West Laundries Ltd

On joining this company I brought all accounting transactions up to date and produced financial year-end accounts within 8 weeks of my start date. I am responsible for the complete accounting function in 2 separate sites, overseeing Sales & Purchase ledger staff, reconciling bank accounts, all Nominal ledger transactions, completing & reconciling VAT returns, Payroll, PAYE, maintaining Fixed Asset registers etc. The Directors now benefit from having monthly P & L and Balance Sheets as well as bespoke management information on spreadsheets.

2005 to 2006 Finance Manager

System Group Ltd, Carlisle.

System Group had a rapid growth period over the previous two years and has now three diverse companies operating within the group. My role was to support the financial growth of the group through fiscal development and budgetary controls. Management information systems, financial reporting and year-end procedures have now been established, and key monthly management accounts for two of the companies are now successfully up and running.

2003 to 2005 Accountant

R H Irving Construction Ltd, Carlisle.

During my time with this civil engineering company I carried out a radical overhaul of the office administration including the training of staff to a higher level of competence. I implemented the necessary accounting procedures, which brought benefits of improved information flow, and financial reporting. I produced annual financial accounts in-house, greatly reducing auditor's fees. I produced monthly management accounts for the first time in the company's history, and new software programmes, specifically designed for the construction industry, were installed and improved upon.

1996 to 2001 Administration Director

Arthur Bell (Scotch Tweeds), Langholm

A proven track record led to this promoted post. My role as Company Accountant grew to encompass all areas of management. I went on a crash course in textile manufacturing run by the Confederation of British Wool Textile Industry in Bradford. This gave me a greater understanding of carding, combing, winding, warping, weaving etc., which enabled me to implement actions to achieve efficiencies within the plant.

1988 to 1996 Company Accountant

Arthur Bell (Scotch Tweeds), Langholm

I gained valuable experience from being involved in the general corporate management of a busy textile manufacturing plant, which exported around the world. I was responsible for the preparation of annual financial and monthly management accounts, including all ad hoc reports; the development of a bi-annual costing system to produce seasonal price lists, for home and export trade; the supervision of all accounting procedures and training of staff to achieve multi-skilling.

1985 to 1988 Assistant to Finance Director

Kingston Spinners Ltd, Sanquhar

This company was a commission spinner to the carpet industry. I was responsible for the management of the accountancy department and office administration; preparing cash flows, production budgets etc. also the computerisation of payroll and developing spreadsheets.
