CAREER HISTORY

FAIRPORT GROUP 2006-Present

Suppliers of process plant and equipment, either as individual units or as complete turnkey operations. Locations in Stockport and Chorley, with 200 staff.

Project Engineer/Manager

Initially appointed to this contract position for a 3 month period to undertake the project engineering and management for an installation for Kellogg's in Wrexham. Once complete continued working on food projects for customers such as British Sugar, Silver Spoon, Ryvita and pharmaceutical projects for Shasun Pharma Solutions. In this role, worked closely with the Engineering Manager, and was responsible for all engineering aspects of allocated projects including purchasing, planning, documentation and customer contact.

The key achievement in this position was to ensure that all projects were successfully completed within timescale and budget.

MICROMASS UK LTD 1997-2005

Now part of the Waters Corporation, a major US-based global company, Micromass are specialists in the development and sale of mass spectrometers, and incorporate a number of companies from the VG Group. 450 staff in the UK, with a turnover of £170M.

Mechanical Design Manager 2000-2005

Promoted into this staff position, with responsibility to the Engineering Manager for all mechanical engineering aspects of the company's full product range, from concept to final detail specification. Staff of 13.

Achievements:

· Initiated and brought to fruition five new instruments which became top sellers in the company's range

· Developed a case, and obtained Board approval, for the acquisition of a Unigraphics 3D CAD system

· Personally designed a method of installing equipment which removed a major H&S hazard at minimal cost

· Introduced a range of modern fixings to facilitate assembly and service

· Instigated an approach to new model development, which involved all functions to minimise manufacturing and maintenance problems.

Senior Design Engineer 1997-2000

Approached by an ex-colleague to take up a contract to assist in the resolution of a number of design problems.

Achievements:

· Won a best-in-show award at an international exhibition for a product which I personally re-designed within a very short timescale, having inherited it as a failing project

· Improved the appearance of the whole product range at reduced costs

· Increased the effectiveness of an existing 2D CAD system that permitted rationalisation of the systems used.

KEMUTEC GROUP 1993-1997

Suppliers of process plant and equipment, either as individual units or as complete turnkey operations. Locations in Macclesfield, Cornwall and Bristol. 200 staff.

Project/Design Engineer 1993-1997

Promoted into this contract position, working on projects for customers such as Nestle Rowntree, Nestle, Barlocher UK, Selecta Windows, etc. In this role, worked closely with the appropriate Contract Manager, and was responsible for all engineering aspects of allocated projects.

The key achievement in this position was to ensure that all projects were successfully completed within timescale and budget. One major project generated the company's largest ever profit on one contract.

Design Engineer 1993

Initially appointed on a six week CAD contract, which was extended to six months once competence had been demonstrated.

CONTRACTS 1989-1993

During this period, worked on a number of contracts in a range of fields. Most of these contracts were secured through ex-colleagues who were aware of relevant skills and experience. Examples include: Design Engineer - VG Elemental, and Design/Installation Engineer - Wilde & Partners.

The contracts gave:

· in-depth experience of computer installation and knowledge of Finite Element analysis

· considerable exposure to Civil Engineering works.

V G ANALYTICAL 1984-1989

Employed as a Design Engineer, and was involved in the installation of a Cimcad CAD system running on Sun workstations. Was asked to take responsibility as Systems Administrator for this new system in addition to existing responsibilities.

MONO PUMPS 1982-1984

Design Draughtsman working as part of the Research and Development team on a new range of positive displacement pumps.

AEROQUIP 1976-1982

Completed an EITB apprenticeship and was appointed to the Design Department as Draughtsman/Assistant Project Engineer.
