WORK EXPERIENCE

AVAK Project Services LimitedSeptember 2005 to Date

Set up my own consultancy company.

Contract (September 2006 - April 2007) is from the Head of Science in the Environment Agency. The Change project is to evaluate the performance of the Science Group and to implement a new management and organisation structure, supported by new governance arrangements, new ways of working, and individual accountabilities for the Science Group. The financial business case was approved by the Environment Agency Directors in April 2006 and the project has been successfully completed to meet all stakeholder requirements.

Contract (July 2007 - March 2008) is from Pfizer plc as a Programme Manager for a Research Pharmaceutical Device and to support the set-up of programme and project management processes.

Contract (March 2008 - Date) is with AWE. I have security clearance to SC level and am Project Manager on a number of small projects on the scientific side of the company.

GE Healthcare/Amersham1999 - 2005

This group markets radio-pharmaceutical products for consumers, research and drug discovery process. Business turnover is >£1 billion and employs over 1000 people in a global environment.

Programme Manger and Project Director 2003 - 2005

Role is to manage the Imanet capital programme, value £40 million.

· Successfully executed a £10M project at Hammersmith Hospital, £5M project at Uppsala, a £2M project in Turku. All projects were personally managed and delivered to a very technical complex standard and within budget.





VP Group Engineering 1999 - 2002

Role was to develop, from zero base, a voice for engineering within the global organisation.

· Developed and implemented Quality Standards and Best Practice Guidelines.

· Developed and launched procedures and methodology for all aspects of work from project initiation through design to contract procurement, construction and start-up. Training of all staff to APM & PMI methodologies.

· Provided guidance and mentoring for all programmes and projects >£1M. Total project portfolio ~£250M. Lead successful commercial negotiations that saved £2M.

· Project Leadership of major projects - Office Facility in Chicago (£20M), Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facilities in Eindhoven (£14M), in Cork (£11M), and in Gloucester (£18M).

· Monitoring and reporting of all programmes and projects to different stakeholders.

ICI & Acquired Unilever Chemicals plc1975 - 1998

National Starch European Corporate Engineering 1992 - 1998

National Starch & Chemical produces adhesives, resins and starch products. Global turnover >$1 billion with 800 staff.

· Successful Project Management of a £20M Spray Dryer Project in Maastricht with zero lost time accidents.

· Supported engineers' at all European manufacturing sites to better performance in projects and maintenance.

· Developed and communicated quality standards and best practices.

· Provided guidance in the management and control of the annual capital budgets for Europe ($32-35 million).

· Monitoring and reporting to different business needs.

Unilever Corporate Engineering Group 1984 - 1992

This corporate group executes major projects for all global Unilever Manufacturing Sites. Total staff 140 with a budget of £50M.

Head of Mechanical Section, Rotterdam 1989 to 1992

· Managed 14 engineers and 25 designers with an annual budget £6M. Acquired and executed multi-million pound projects at many global sites.

Design Office Manager, London 1987 to 1989

· Managed multi-discipline design team (60 staff) and 9 CAD/CAE stations. Annual budget £2 million. Implemented novel 3D CAD methodology.

Project Manager 1984 - 1986

· Successfully executed projects: New margarine factory Thailand (Cost £6m), soap plants Ghana & Bangladesh (Cost £5m each), SPE plant Netherlands (Cost £12m) and soap plant Australia (Cost £7m).

Production & Development Engineer 1982 to 1984

PPF International Ashford, Kent, manufactures perfumes and flavours.

Project Engineer 1980 to 1982

Loders and Nucoline, London, manufactures specialist oils and fats.

Chemical Engineer 1975 to 1980

Unilever Research, Port Sunlight Laboratory.
