Process Engineer.
Responsible for the day to day Engineering support of the Manufacturing processes. CTS are a high volume supplier that manufactures electronic exhaust gas recirculation, throttle position and pedal sensors to Ford, Nissan, Vauxhall, Renault and a number of other major automotive companies.
Responsibilities:-
*Co-ordinate with design implementing new product.
*Fully support the automated processes in relation to Quality, delivery precision and non-conforming product reduction.
*Investigate and resolve process issues.
*Introduce/drive continual improvement/lean manufacturing/value stream mapping activities.
*Prepare and maintain detailed documentation and control plans that support the Manufacturing process to TS16949.
*Interface with other related functions working in a team environment.
*Full understanding of Quality processes and requirements.
*Investigate and resolve customer concerns using quality tools including global 8D.
1992 - May 2000 Volvo Truck & Bus, Kilwinning Road, Irvine KA12 8TB.
Production Engineer.
Responsible for the day to day running of the Bus production assembly. Also involved in a number of key projects and special vehicle assembly over the seven years employed with Volvo in the role of Production Engineer. Gained a great deal of experience working with all areas of production including, axles, frames, engines, rolling road/vehicle test procedures.
Responsibilities:-
* Specify assembly methods from prototype and method build to full production.
* Identify and specify all necessary tooling, labour and layout requirements to optimise the process.
* Material management - flow and handling, line-side delivery planning, movement and storage etc.
* Fully support the production teams in relation to quality, cost and delivery precision.
* Establishing the times for assembly by watch or synthetics.
* Provide Engineering support and problem solving on production line.
* Ensuring continuous improvement within cross-functional teams.
* Ensure design and quality changes/solutions by specifying, installing and commissioning facilities on time.
* Communicate and liase with both, internal and external suppliers and customers with respect to Quality, Design and toolmaking.
* Responsible for the creation and control of information to the assembly line satisfying ISO9001.
* Understanding of environmental issues such as COSHH and EMAS.
* Fully versed in ergonomic issues including Health and Safety and risk assessment.
1988 - 1992 Volvo Truck & Bus.
Production Chargehand.
Responsible for the day to day running of the truck production facility and responsible for approx. 50 operators.
Responsibilities:-
* Ensure both quality and delivery precision are achieved on a daily basis.
* Labour loading of production line to suit different labour intensive products.
* Training programme for absenteeism cover using job rotation routines.
* Co-ordinate and distribute workload evenly throughout teams.
* Ensure output and quality of each process is within the constraints of ISO9001.
1986 - 1988 Volvo Truck & Bus.
Section Leader.
Responsible for 12 operators in the cab fitment area within truck production.
Responsibilities:-
* Reporting problems on a daily basis i.e. Material shortages, tooling, and labour problems.
* Check problem parts ensuring conformance to drawing.
* Identifying problems and liasing with the appropriate departments i.e. Design, SQA, Engineering.
1983 - 1986 Volvo Truck & Bus.
Semi- Skilled operator.
Worked in all areas of Truck production gaining a great deal of assembly experience of Volvo trucks including specialised vehicles.
Responsibilities:-
* General assembly operations including axles, cabs, frame riveting, painting, pneumatics, hydraulics, rectification.
* Use of Pneumatic torque tools to achieve accurate tolerances.
* Interpret and follow system based assembly/quality instructions.
* Ensure the work area is maintained to a high standard of safety and cleanliness.
* Contribute to the effectiveness of the production teams.
1976 - 1982 County Motor Garage, Johnstone, Renfrewshire.
Motor Vehicle Mechanic.
Served full apprenticeship in a Vauxhall, Honda and Aston Martin dealership.
Responsibilities:-
* Diagnose and carry out light vehicle repairs.
* MOT test
* Light bodybuilder duties including spray and panel repairs.
* Training of apprentices to a high quality.
