Work History.

2007 to date

Design Engineer

GTT

  • Assisting the bid and project management team in assessing the suitability of a number of contracting, installation,and equipment companies to provide best practice data, ring.and SDH systems to a major international banking group.
  • Negotiating with various top Telco equipment, fibre (lit and dark) and network providers.
  • Creating documentation for presentation to GTTs customer, which demonstrates how the reccomended system solution would function interface,and sit topographically within GTT's customers European WAN.

2006 to 2007

Design Engineer

Global Crossing

  • Working in a office based design group responsible for assessing and if neccessary amending or correcting designs forwarded by third party companies commissioned to survey viable optical fibre based routes between Global Crossings Core Network(Mostly Network Rail based) and UK based Vodafone Cellular Radio Aerial Sites. In order to create an SDH/DWDM based telecomms network to serve existing and future network developments.
  • This process would commence with creating a cost effective fibre route utilising existing rail and street and building elements ie troughing (Rail), Chambers (Street/Road),Risers (Building) Forwarding this design to approved third party companies for initial survey and planning.On return assessing the design,reconfiguring if necessary by instruction or negotiation.Creating a detailed design from historical,and legacy companies data existing rail or road joint to mast site fibre termination equipment, which would include Cable schematics, routings, pair identification and the creation of splicing remits to present to the customer.
  • Utilising and implementation of new fibre cable and containment.Gaining wayleaves,permits for land or buildings.
  • This position requires expertise in both communication infrastructures, and the physical mediums through which they are transported.ie Civils.Road /Rail and Building schemes etc.
  • I have the ability to work closely with the third party companies and achieve a rapport with them to ensure a consistent high quality product or design is produced to meet Vodafones standards and timescales.

2005 to 2006.

National Fibre Planner.

NTL Ltd.

  • Working closely with NTL Wholesale Business Group.to research fibre penetration in relation to BT sites in England, Scotland and Wales.and to provide data which would assist NTL in making accurate costing estimates regarding contractual decisions with major customers.
  • Creating an accurate database which above group found to be "invaluable" as a quick easy method to reach initial decisions in negotiations with external companies.
  • Building excellent working relationships with nationwide in house contacts to gather information and access databases and fibre mapping details.This involved travel to regional sites.
  • Swiftly familiarising myself with NTLs many IT solutions to gather data.This would involve "detective" work in varied Legacy systems (soft & paper).that remained from newly acquired telcos. Conversant with NTL databases including GIS ,Info-map,Net-viz,FON etc.

2004 to 2005.

Enabling Engineer.

DPSS

  • Surveying LUL property to facilitate modification to and installation of new cable bearers and miscellaneous containment equipments within tunnels and stations.
  • Managing installation of new equipments on telecommunications sites on Piccadilly line.Working closely with project managers to ensure a quality and timely install with zero disruption to LUL services.

2003 to 2004

Enabling Engineer

Fluor Ltd., London

  • Surveying customer sites (Ground Level, Underground, and Tunnels)
  • To create cohesive plans to enable a high quality installation of the various elements that build a total media network (i.e. equipments, cabinets, cables and respective containments; tray, trunking etc). This necessitated the creation to exacting specifications (Legal obligation in public and non-public areas). Accurate detailed plans, material ordering lists. Complete fully comprehensive detailed installation instructions using lists, plans and annotated photographs.
  • Bringing together and micro-managing with a view to quality and time-locked deadlines. Civil Engineering, electrical, radio, cctv media, engineering functions to present a complete installation package to the customer Then to support the installation programme from first stage to completion and customer handover.

JULY 1998 to 2001

Customer Application Specialist

Nortel Networks based in New Southgate, London

  • Surveying customer sites and engineering leading edge SDH Communication networks involving OPTera 320Gb broadband systems carrying STM64, STM16 and STM4 via DWDM OADM plus PDH Access around Europe and the Middle East.
  • Generating contract specifications, documentation,worksheets,rackface layouts,connectivity diagrams etc for major orders to enable Supply, Installation, and Commissioning to be achieved within agreed timescales and with the quality and technical requirements of the contract.
  • Major involvement in the modification of Canada/USA equipment to function in the European field of operations, i.e. OPTera and OPTera Metro, CVX, Passport 7.5K and 15K Data products. And more recently, wireless, GSM, and UMTS equipment and product.

Customer access engineering prime for the following projects: -

RSLCOM

  • STM16 network plus access FRANCE involving countrywide site surveys liaison with in country engineers, project management and customers. This project required considerable time spent in France working from the Nortel Paris office.

LEVEL 3

  • Pan European Network:- UK and European prime for complete project from inception to customer handover. Involving all aspects of planning and project management. To achieve the goals above it was necessary to manage and support a team of planning specialists and implementation engineers. Plan and supervise installation of a simulated network within Level3s laboratory.

Development of processes and the training of new staff using new products and processes to ensure quality work to exacting timescales in a customer facing environment.

AUTOSTRADE

  • Pan European ring:- First deployment of 32 wavelength 10 G-bit DWDM equipment.

NTL UK

  • Optical Wideband rings:-. Deployment of OPTera long haul products to build network backbone.

THUS

  • (Scottish Telecom), Equipment Audits and installation of DCN (network management).

YOUR

  • Design and supervise install of the Nortel Equipment test bed within their lab. The quality achieved in this installation influenced Norweb in their choice of Nortel as their prime supplier for their core network.

  • Planning Engineer on transmission planning (Fibre & Copper), specialising in high-speed transmission and Megastream/ISDN products. PDH and SDH based products

  • Megastream Construction Involvement in all aspects of implementation of customer facing and repeater station digital equipment i.e. rack erection, cabling, fibre installation, connection and splice.
