Process Engineer
Lead and coach improvement implementation projects in support of Operations activities
such as electrical installation, pipework manufacture and installation, steelwork prep and
post-launch outfitting. Cost justified and project managed capital equipment purchases.
Introduced databases to record and monitor job delays, IWT issues and lessons learned.
Undertook activities in support of Design for Six Sigma Manufacturability. Conducted
SPC capability studies, gauge R&R, FMEA, process mapping, and led problem solving
groups to reduce manufacturing costs. Involved in Lean Manufacturing including layout
planning, 10 Wastes reduction, 5S auditing, kanban pull system coordination, authoring
a Lean Handbook and conducting Lean audits. Provided training on Lean Manufacturing
and SPC for shop floor. Wrote various process instructions and participated in change
reviews. Assisted in recruiting activities. IT/ Network Administrator for the department.
Production Engineer
Conducted process improvement activities in the Test and Commissioning Department.
Cost justified and purchased capital equipment. Projects have included Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), compressed air dryer, flow meters, chilled water plant, communications system, oscillographic recorder, and fibre optics training.
Maintained project schedules, problem solved, and kept effective communication with internal customers in the Electrical, Hull, Mechanical, and Weapons Systems departments.
1997 - 1998 MKS Instruments, Inc. Andover, MA , USA
Manufacturing Engineer
Responsibilities included improvement of manufacturing / test processes and equipment,
root cause analysis and corrective action of in-process electronics failures, and reporting
on failure analysis of field returns for a high volume line of capacitance manometers and
pressure transducers. Liaised with contract printed circuit board manufacturers and
electrical component manufacturers to continuously improve product quality and test yields. Involved in ISO 9001, poka yoke, design for manufacturing and kaizen blitz teams.
1992 - 1997Teradyne, Inc.Boston, MA, USA
System Test Supervisor
Supervised and coached a night shift team of engineers and technicians in the testing and
troubleshooting of mixed-signal semiconductor test systems including A585, A575, A565,
and Catalyst. Helped drive continuous improvement of test yields, on-time delivery,
field MTBF, and cycle time through leadership in Quality Improvement Teams and TQM. Managed circuit board level troubleshooting of systems as well as component level
troubleshooting of "No Fault Found" board test returns. Involved in Six Sigma Quality,
ISO 9001 training, Design for Manufacturing and Statistical Process Control programmes.
Work Experience continued
1988 - 1992General Electric CompanySomersworth, NH, USA
Technical Supervisor
Responsible for manufacturing engineering support and supervision in a printed circuit
board / electronic register module assembly and test environment. Helped introduce statistical process control, kanban, just-in-time, performance metrics and self-directed work teams. Experienced with surface mount technology, solder paste application, reflow, as well as through-hole automatic insertion, semi-automatic insertion, wave soldering, GenRad in-circuit test, burn-in, environmental testing, final module assembly and test.
Test Equipment Engineer
Engineering support of test equipment on a printed circuit board manufacturing floor.
Responsibilities included designing test equipment, troubleshooting equipment, and the
coordinating of preventative maintenance. Equipment included GenRad 2276 in-circuit
testers and Tenney environmental test chambers, for which I specified and supervised the
construction of fixtures as well as programmed the test software. Improved test yields by
implementing process improvements, fixture enhancements, and test program changes.
1984 - 1987Hewlett-Packard CompanyWaltham, MA, USA
Test Technician
Worked as a medical electronics technician as an intern during University summer breaks.
Responsible for testing and troubleshooting Hewlett-Packard CLOVER patient monitors,
ORION central station monitors and ECG chart recorders. Troubleshot to component level
