PROFILE

My employment with major engineering contractors and consultants has given me a diverse knowledge embracing Fine Chemicals, Energy, and Biotechnology. This includes process design from conceptual studies through to the commissioned facility, safety engineering, and also energy saving activities. My commercial experience includes proposal writing, project cost estimation and cost benefit analysis. I have supervised process design teams on a project specific basis. My competences include HAZOP, API, PED, ATEX, FDA regulations and other standards.

DETAILED WORK EXPERIENCE

Feb 2007 - Present Single Buoy Moorings, Monaco

Principal Process Engineer

Draugen field oil export system upgrade (concept study). System involves subsea PLEM,s, dual flexible risers, pigging systems. Presentation of study to Norske Shell.

Various small support projects for existing leased FPSO's; these have included relief system upgrades, flow measurement, HAZOP actions and as-built drawing checks.

Development of turret P&ID for a new build FPSO.

Major revision to the Process and Marine Systems corporate engineering standard, writing of new chapter on inertization of cargo tanks.

Review/checking of documents produced by junior engineers.

June 2006 - Feb 2007 Sørco AS, Stavanger, Norway

Senior Safety Engineer

Kårsto Expansion Project (gas terminal). Basic engineering has included the review and mark up of P&ID's and SIL/LOPA analysis, in order to identify the ESD / PSD / HIPPS functions that will need to be modified. Checking and commenting of cause and effect charts. Writing of the process section of the basic engineering report. SIL gap closure actions. Particular actions have included relief calculations, procedural changes and additional instrumentation. Study of API 14C during the first weeks of the project.

Principal Process Engineer

VOC assessment and abatement studies for a Fine Chemicals Plant. Glycol and Nitrogen load studies for which I prepared a Monte Carlo simulation in order to model the loads generated by the concurrent batch processes. Aspen modelling of the scrubber load profile and specification of the scrubber system upgrade. Two phase flow relief calculations (Diers methodology), and relief device specification for reactor systems. Hazardous area analysis for new process introduction.

Jan 2005 -Sep 2005Client: Bovis Lend Lease, Antwerp

Principal Process Engineer

Bioethanol Plant; Lead Process Engineer for the basic engineering phase. Liaison with client, supervision of junior engineers. Preparation of heat and mass balance. Cooling water study.

Energy utilisation study for client Procter and Gamble. Identification of energy saving initiatives using cost benefit analysis, driven by the clients obligations under the Kyoto protocol.

Writing of the Proposal for Construction Management Services for the phases II and III of the Genzyme, Flanders proposed expansion. Site based cGMP review and VOC abatement project for GSK, Heppignes.

Jan 2000 -Jan 2005Client: Jacobs Engineering, Leiden, NL & Lyon, France

Principal Process Engineer

Polyethylene plant: Flare load calculations, preparation of P&IDs including reactor and flare system.

Management of a technology transfer project from R&D to 1000 Litre production scale. Writing of project definition, coordination of inter-departmental activities and liaison with client.

Front end study for an aseptic fill/finish/freeze drying facility. Responsible for the coordination and development of the conceptual process engineering. Liaison with Jacobs Lead Engineers and Pfizer site personnel. Preparation of URS documents for Lyophiliser, vial filling and inspection machines and stopper washer.

Lead Engineer; front end design of a multi purpose bulk pharmaceutical facility involving 3 reactors, 4 receivers, and centrifuge systems. Major containment issues due to O.E. limits below 1 mg/m³. Supervision of process design team.

Feb 1999 -Dec 1999Client: Centocor, Leiden, NL.

Validation Officer

Responsible for the review and approval of validation protocols and final reports during the start up phase of a major facility expansion.

Jan 1996 - Jan 1999Client:Project Management Group, Dublin.

Lead Process Engineer

Process engineering input to the upgrade of a petroleum products import terminal. New import lines, atmospheric storage tanks, tanker offloading and pumping systems.

Fine Chemicals Facility: Eight glass reactors (100 Lit. max), centrifuge, tray dryer, pressure filter, vacuum, heating and cooling systems. Preparation of the Validation Master Plan.

Six month assignment in Austria. Process estimate, P&ID development and equipment specifications. Crossflow filtration, disc separation, activated carbon, CIP and RO systems.

Oct 1994 - Jan 1996Client:Technip, Benelux

Project Engineer

Equipment engineering / bid analysis for the progression of material requisitions to installation stage; gas scrubbers, solids handling, and local extraction packages. Responsible for the final issue P&ID's (50 off); SS/GL reactors, pressure filters, scrubbers and centrifuge systems.

Basic cost benefit analysis and business case for a domestic waste incineration project (combined heat and power).

Mar 1993 - Oct 1994Client:Project Management Group, Cork.

Senior Process Engineer

Protein purification: Development of P&ID's and functional logic diagrams, equipment sizing; clean steam, WFI, CIP, DI water, Chiller, HPLC, Ultrafiltration and Autoclave modules. As commissioning engineer; design change control, IQ/OQ preparation and execution for major systems. Liaising with construction, production and validation departments.

Primary Pharmaceutical: Relief device sizing to API 520. Computer simulation of absorber load profile. Electrical zoning study. HAZOP/GMP review of a plant incorporating glass lined reactors, a vacuum dryer and glove boxes for the dispensing of toxic powders.

Secondary pharmaceutical: Supervision / cost control of construction sub contractors. Writing and execution of validation protocols for a GMP facility incorporating mixer/granulator, powder coating, dispensing, and solvent recovery systems.

Carageenan Production: An economic and technical appraisal of electrodialysis, reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration techniques applied to the recovery of potassium chloride.

Jan 1991 - Feb 1993 Client:Biogen Inc.

Process Engineer

Mammalian cell Culture: Design study and estimate for a 50, 250 and 1000 Lit. reactor train. Preliminary P&ID's included Reactors, WFI and aqueous waste decontamination systems.

Facilities upgrades: Supervision and cost control during the construction of clean room facilities comprising purification suites, fermentation and centrifuge systems.

Feb 1989 - Jan 1991 Client: SmithKline Biologicals

Process Engineer

Hepatitis Vaccine Fill/ Finish Facility: Preparation of the utility load/time profiles. Specification of the generation packages including glycol chillers, CIP, high purity gases, clean steam, plant steam, WFI and contaminated waste kill systems. Sizing of distribution piping and checking of piping isometrics.

Process Engineer

Coca Cola Blending: P&ID development incorporating blend vessels, CIP and pumping systems.

Chocolate Crumb Plant: Preparation of lump sum estimate and tender document. Specification of heavy equipment; ovens, homogenisers and vessels.

Process design, equipment sizing and specification for a research facility incorporating glass lined rectors with hot oil systems. Writing of the reactor temperature control philosophy. Experience of various projects in the dairy, beverage and sugar industries.
