Kazakstan. Worked primarily in the Alstom offices in Essen as the Client Electrical Engineer both guiding, checking and approving the specification, design and engineering associated with the

10kV and 400V Switchgear.

110/110kV, 110/10kV and 10/0.4kV Transformers.

1000kW Diesel Gen-set.

The electrical engineering of facilities for the ARAMCO Shaybah Project. The main areas of engineering responsibility included checking vendor design on the following contracts:4 x 85MW Frame-7 GTG's , 2 x 2MW 4160V Diesel Generators and 8 x 15MW Sync Motors. In addition to the engineering, I undertook vendor liason meetings in the USA and Canada, together with inspection and witness testing of the above mentioned equipment.

Engaged on contract on the electrical engineering of the Sriracha Oil Refinery expansion project for Esso Standard Thailand (the initial development of which I was previously engaged upon with Foster Wheeler in 1984). Duties consisted of performing technical calculations (steady state and transient voltage drop, short-circuit and motor starting), system earthing, protective relaying, specification and equipment selection, all allied to gas-turbine generation, transformers, MV and LV switchgear and large motors.

April 91 - March 92

MATTHEW HALL

LONDON, ENGLAND

Engaged on the front-end study and the follow on engineering of Total Oil Marine's Dunbar oil and gas platform for the North Sea.

Duties encompassed fault and motor start calculations, layout, distribution system development, protective relaying, equipment specification and vendor review. Power is supplied to the platform

a distance of 22km via 2 x 20kV subsea cables from thr North Alwyn platform. The electrical systems include 20kV, 6.6kV and 440V distribution.

1989 - 1991

JOHN BROWN ENGINEERS

PORTSMOUTH, ENGLAND

Engaged on contract on the electrical engineering of the ICI PTA Plant for Taiwan.

Duties included specification, engineering and technical calculations related to a 69/11kV substation, 11kV and 480V distribution systems, switchgear and mcc's, fault calculations, relay protection and specification of a 20MW synchronous motor and a 720kW variable speed drive system. The design was to NEC and Taiwan Power Company requirements.

1988 - 1989

BRITISH OXYGEN CRYOPLANTS

GUILDFORD, ENGLAND

Engaged on contract on the electrical engineering associated with gaseous plants, the duties of which included updating the company electrical equipment specifications and standards, calculations and engineering design allied to HV and LV substations and distribution systems supplying large induction and synchronous motors. Undertook evaluation of motor/load/system relationship on the starting of large drives either d-o-l, reactor or auto-transformer assisted. Prepared technical appraisal of plant and equipment and carried out factory witness tests

1986 - 1988

BERMUDA ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPANY

BERMUDA

Engaged as the Senior Electrical Engineer on the engineering and planning of new projects. Developed long-range generation and transmission plans, evaluated international tenders for both diesel and gas-turbine generating units and visited Sweden, USA, England and Switzerland to have meetings with vendors.

Undertook project management for the engineering and construction of the 16MW Solar/ASEA GT35 Jupiter gas-turbine generator.

The company has large gas-turbine, slow and medium speed diesel generating sets with overhead and underground transmission up to 35kV, supplying an island load of 80MW.

1985 - 1986

JOHN BROWN ENGINEERS

PORTSMOUTH, ENGLAND

Engaged on a 20-month contract on the engineering of the electrical system for a textile plant and associated 25MW steam power plant for Reliance Textiles of India. Duties included the engineering, design, technical calculation and specification of equipment

all allied to the process and steam turbine generation. In addition, undertook liaison meetings with German vendors of boiler plant, generator, turbine, switchgear and control/protection systems.

The electrical system comprised a 25MW/11kV generator operating in parallel with the national grid, with main distribution at 11kV and utilisation at 6.6kV and 415V.

1983 - 1985

FOSTER WHEELER

READING, ENGLAND

Engaged on the electrical engineering of the two following projects

Esso Standard Refinery at Sriracha, Thailand.

Work included the specification, design and appraisal of electrical equipment, short-circuit and transient stability study, control and relaying, all allied to on-site generation operating in parallel with the national grid with a Brush Prismic power management and load shedding unit in control. Mongstad Refinery, Norway.

Scope of work included preparation of standards, system studies, specifications, technical calculations, design and protective relay co-ordination, all allied to the generation, distribution and utilisation of power over 22kV, 6kV and 400V with a total load of 53MW.

1981 - 1982

KELLOGG CONTINENTAL

AMSTERDAM, HOLLAND.

Engaged on contract on the detailed engineering of the electrical system associated with

Phase-1 of the NW Shelf Gas Project in Australia.

The nature of work undertaken included detailed design of the distribution systems, specification and requisition of equipment, system fault and voltage calculations, system earthing and the technical evaluation of gas-turbine sets and distribution equipment. Both Shell Oil Company and Australian codes and standards were used in the design. Phase-1 included 6x2.5MW gas-turbine gensets, emergency diesel gensets, UPS equipment, 6.6kV distribution and substations.

1979 - 1981

SONATRACH

ARZEW, ALGERIA

Engaged as a Senior Electrical Engineer at the 1,200-million cfd, 6-train gas liquifaction plant at Arzew, Algeria, where I provided technical assistance to the operation and maintenance of the following : 3 x 18.5 MW steam turbine generating sets Diesel generation of 2.5 MW at 5.5kV 5.5kV and 400Vsubstations, distribution and mcc's UPS systems

1977 -1979

ARABIAN GULF EXPLORATION COMPANY

LIBYA

Engaged on contract on the management of the electrical construction and commissioning of a 10-MW gas-turbine generating set at the Sarir oil field and a 10-kV underground distribution system at the Tobruk oil terminal. In addition, I developed plans for the overhead distribution system to supply power to oil field water injection and oil lift stations.

1976 - 1977

WESTINGHOUSE NUCLEAR

SWEDEN and BELGIUM

Engaged on contract both in Sweden and Belgium on the electrical engineering review of the electrical system of Ringhals nuclear power plant. Work included the evaluation of the technical design, equipment rating and capability of the plant auxiliaries, short-circuit and transient analysis, together with the preparation of the electrical section of the Final Safety Analysis Report.

1975 - 1975

LUMMUS COMPANY

LONDON

Engaged on contract on the electrical engineering associated with the Ninian Central oil drilling and production platform in the north sea, which has 75-MW of generating capacity and 45,000-hp of installed motor capacity. The nature of my work included the following :

Technical calculations.

Power system short-circuit and transient stability study, d-o-l starting of 5,000-hp induction motors, system frequency response, automatic load shedding and motor reacceleration.

Approval of vendors designs and drawings.

Factory witness tests and inspections.

1973 - 1974

INTERNATION ENGINEERING COMPANY

SAN FRANCISCO, USA.

Employed as the Senior Power Planning Engineer in the areas of electric power systems, utility economics and financial feasibility study.

Major assignments included the study in Brazil of the economic feasibility of the 12,000-MW hydro electric project at Itaipu (which is now in operation). In Nicaragua, I initiated a power system study for the development of hydroelectric power plants on three main rivers.

Being familiar with the newly nationalised company due to my previous employment with it's original owner (Stone & Webster), I was employed as a Consultant to the corporate management for guidance in electric utility practice.

Employed as a Management Consultant in the Electric Utility Department on the following :

Market Study - Compared the economics of marketing coal reserves by producing electric power from a 7,500-MW mine mouth power plant and transmitting the output 1,000-miles to the market area, to that of producing power in the market area by nuclear power plants.

Power System Planning - Undertook long-range power development study of the generation and transmission requirements for the Island of Jamaica. Included load-flow study, forecasts of energy, demand, revenues, expenses, rate-of-return and financing.

Acquisition Study - Undertook for investor owned electric utilities the possible purchase of municipal owned systems. Work involved the valuation of assets, future earnings and expenses together with the impact on the company earnings if the acquisition was completed.

Employed as an Electrical Engineer on the design and engineering of the electrical facilities for the rapid transport system between the World Trade Center in Manhattan and New Jersey.
