CV

A skilled graphic designer at home on a PC or Mac. Using Photoshop, QuarkXPress, Freehand, Illustrator, Pagemaker and Acrobat. I have worked as part of a team or alone with equal motivation. I have a full knowledge of design to print and enjoy learning new skills. I began working for a design studio in 1991, then joined Thomas Reed Publications Ltd as part of their typesetting team setting nautical almanacs, which by definition, have to be completely accurate. I then went to Future Publishing where I worked for 7 years as the Ad Design Manager for the Computing division. Setting ads with my team for the 26 computing titles they published. For the last 8 years, I have been laying out and designing Positive Health magazine. My current employer has had to drop my hours to part-time because of the economic climate. So ideally I am looking for part time work, however if a full-time vacancy arose, I would be happy to take it.

Employment History

(Jun 2000 & ongoing)

Graphic Designer

Working from Home

Laying out the editorial features. Converting graphics to the correct dimensions and CMYK format. Converting files for print. Drawing accurate graphs and diagrams. Some illustration in the magazine. Cover design. Designing and setting advertisements for display and classifieds. The magazine has recently been cut down from 86 pages to 70. My job also entails copy chasing for the advertisers, sending out pdf proofs for approval. Making final high resolution pdfs for the printers. Adhering to strict print deadlines and often setting ads right up to the print day because of late sales.

(1993 to 2000)

Ad Design Manager

Bath

In charge of a team of six designers setting the ads for all the computer magazine. Trouble shooting was a big part of the job as advertisers often sent in their 'final' artwork, which had to be converted to a format we could use for print. At first we sent to film, but later to pdf. I wrote a course for QuarkXPress which was used across the Ad design teams in Future Publishing. Adhering to numerous strict deadlines. I also improved efficiency by creating an ad back up library for all to use.
