CV
| Creative Skills: Art Direction (Photography and Film), Concept Design, Illustration, Visualization, Finished Artwork, Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design packages on Mac. Job Experience: Thamesmouth Printing Company 3-Years: I served a 3-year apprenticeship as a typographer and at the same time took an Advertising and Graphics course at Thurrock Technical College, Essex. In that time, I learnt all aspects of type design, print production and finishing. Allen Burrows (Brentwood, Essex) - 3 Years: My first job in advertising as a trainee art director. Accounts worked on included Ford Cars and Commercial Vehicles (Brochure Design) and Aston Martin (Brochure Design). Northern & Shell Publishing (London) - 11 Years: Initially, I was employed as a graphic designer on all magazine publications in the N&S studio. Tasks included photographic art direction, magazine layout and promotional brochures. After 4 years I was promoted to studio manager, a job I handled for a further 2 years. N&S decided to start its own in-house ad agency, DeMonde to create ads for some of the major advertisers in the N&S magazines. I was given the opportunity to move over to the advertising side of the company and pitches won and worked on included JVC UK, Matsushta Group Japan, Roland Electronics, Yamaha Musical Instruments, Yamaha Professional, Arbiter Group (Fender Guitars), Marshall Amplification and Birds Eye Walls (promotions) Bass-Charrington (Promotions). I also designed and produced the first six issues of UK Penthouse Magazine when N&S won the franchise from Haymarket Publishing. My employer, entrepreneur Richard Desmond (now sole owner of Express Group Newspapers) decided to sell DeMonde because N&S wanted to concentrate on building the publishing side of the company. I was offered a directorship on the N&S board, but declined as I wanted to concentrate on furthering my experience in advertising and marketing. Dovetail Advertising - 2 Years: After leaving N&S, I started my own partnership in Soho, London. Over the first financial year, the agency secured 4-million in billing terms (advertising & media) which included the Turkish Tourist Board (Posters, TV and National Press) and again I worked with JVC, who had fired their incumbent agency Kelly Weedon Schute over disagreements with their Christmas ad campaign. Sadly, Dovetail was wound up due to my equal business partner contracting a serious illness and was thus unable to continue. CDP - Collett Dickinson Pierce - 5 Years: I had a successful time at CDP and was teamed up with a copywriter. The accounts we became responsible for were Going Places (TV, National Press), Honda Cars UK (TV, National Press, Trade Press), Gallaher Tobacco Brands (Benson @ Hedges, Mayfair, Sobranie, Hamlet), Whyte & Mackay Whiskey (TV and Cinema), Canon UK (Press). ShopCast TV - 2 Years: I worked in Toronto, Canada over a two-year period for ShopCast TV and was involved in developing a new kind of narrowcast broadcasting system (In-Store TV) for Wal-Mart Canada. Basically the job entailed producing pilot film content and commercials for Wal-Mart product promotions which was linked to 10 major test stores across Canada. The same exercise was produced for Canadian Tire a major hardware store chain. Litmus Blue 18 months: My position at Litmus Blue advertising, a startup agency located in Clerkenwell Green, London was as Creative Director. The agency won several accounts that I worked on creatively including Sky TV, SkyCard, Guinness Rugby Premiership, EDF Energy Cup (Rugby) , VoiPod (Voip Phone Technology), Severn-Trent, One-Move, Threshers, EasyJet and B&Q. I'm currently working freelance and have been involved with several projects including the design and production of a 250-page book about the Caribbean island of Grenada. |
