CV
| I am a seasoned professional with a proven record of accomplishment in advertising, communications, marketing and sales, with a vast array of business, management and all round people skills! I am seeking a Group Account Director or Client Services Director position in a dynamic progressive advertising agency, where my vast experience and skill levels can be utilised fully, within a mutually beneficial association. Professional Profile I started my career in the Pharmaceutical/Healthcare industry, initially as a medical representative, then promoted respectively to Regional Sales Manager, Product Manager, Group Product Manager and Sales & Marketing Manager. I successfully handled, launched, established and ultimately assumed total responsibility for a large number of Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Consumer and Cosmetic brands as well as controlling a marketing team and field sales force of some 30 odd people. As I was not a qualified pharmacist, my future career prospects in the then classic Pharmaceutical/Healthcare arena were limited and I chose to pursue/further my ambitions in the Advertising & Communications field. A daunting and exciting period followed when I was offered a client service/marketing position with the largest South African Advertising Agency at the time (BBDO – International), where I was literally thrown in the deep end by having to operate in 3 completely different agencies within the group. With the imminent closure of BBDO–International due to political and business pressures, I took the plunge and broke away to successfully establish and run my own Advertising & Marketing agency, through various mergers, partnerships, name changes and acquisitions from an original staff of 3 and billings of R150K, to a staff compliment of 24 and income in excess of R40M. I was ultimately persuaded to rationalise and sell the healthcare business of the agency to the Bates Group, who wanted to acquire my accounts as the basis for establishing Bates HealthWorld (the then largest healthcare advertising and marketing agency network globally), in South Africa. After heading up and running the agency as Grapplegroup Healthcare for approximately a year, the group was about to be restructured and merged with Harrison Human, and I opted to retire in the face of the internal political struggles that inevitably ensue under these circumstances. I have subsequently been working on a contractual basis as a consultant/new business development/project manager/strategist/operations director, on various assignments within the communications industry over the last few years prior to permanently joining Ogilvy Healthworld London in May 2007. Due to adverse trading conditions, the consequent redundancy of some very capable team members, and a great deal of disillusionment on my part, I have recently resigned my position as Senior Account Director with Ogilvy Healthworld Advertising in London. |
