Germany Lead consultant on a financial Global Reporting project in Germany for Allianz Insurance, using a Rules Engine, Oracle and SAP to do ETL of financial ledgers from all EU offices of subsidiary (Euler Hermes) to group central SAP FI.
Alongside assisting the programme manager to run the project, I advise on technical design and architecture, planning, risks, change control and directly manage 3 other Microgen consultants. I also assist the internal development team with technical ETL expertise.
In addition, I have specific responsibility for managing Belgium business as part of the project, which has allowed me to assimilate some basic knowledge of the insurance industry (eg. difference between treaty and facultative reinsurance, coinsurance, value policies, viatical settlements).

Hired to analyse shortcomings of the group’s current BI solution, research immediate problems and implement short-term solutions, while researching a longer term replacement system, including analysis and selection of shortlist of vendors. Recommendations and costs presented to senior management for a new BI solution for 500 staff across 26 countries.
Designed and built a prototype datawarehouse and management reporting solution in SQL Server 2005 to demonstrate to VP’s. Data sourced from several AS400 DB2 source systems using SSIS and reports provided in MS Reporting Services running on IIS in Windows 2003 Server. Activities undertaken cover requirements gathering, design, data modelling, systems analysis, ETL, design, project planning, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS and writing views and stored procedures in TSQL. Rewrote 20 Crystal Reports into Reporting Services.

Full technical responsibility for a new global enterprise BI system, interfacing to Peoplesoft and based on a data warehouse design. The system was to be accessible worldwide and from board level down, but needed a robust security design to restrict access to extremely sensitive data
A 50/50 technical/management role to deliver a system that would allow managers to globally analyse compensation market data and compare and contrast it with the bank’s own
Business Objects had been chosen as the reporting tool and I was required to quickly learn this product inside-out (Designer, Reporter, Supervisor & WebIntelligence), purchase it, test it, install and configure it, then roll-out and train the first 20 power users in various countries
Full life-cycle project from analysis through to post-live maintenance, including hands-on development of both the back-end (PL/SQL, stored procedures) and a front-end web portal
Significant ETL of data from other data sources and then analysing and reporting on that data using PL/SQL and Business Objects.
Responsibilities included planning and delivering a world-wide roll-out plan, covering implementation, testing, documentation and the training of both the users and support staff
Key business and technology contact for all aspects of the system including liaison with software suppliers, external consultants, network and server managers globally
Further responsibility for maintaining and supporting the users of a business critical Access and Excel system and planning the migration of its data, business logic and users to the new system.

One of the biggest challenges presented was at Chase Manhattan, when the software we were using proved inadequate for the task. We rapidly designed and developed a new solution using VB6. My success resulted in Chase Manhattan requesting my help to manage their Y2K desktop project for Asia as it had run into serious problems.

Viasoft offered me a permanent role and one of my team was recruited by Chase Manhattan.
